If you want to type idiotic stuff like "worth wild", "your awesome" or "don't be a looser," then that's fine with me. I can't stop you from being on life support.

BUT FOR FRAK'S SAKE... get the spelling right for basic game mechanics. If you're writing a 500 word post about MORALE and you write "moral" 27000 times while complaining about how you can't beat the game then consider this:

For the people hoping to work for Stardock: Inability to spell does not reflect intelligence but IT DOES reflect your ability to get a line of code written properly the first time. If I was running the hiring process, I wouldn't waste time with people that can't take two seconds to catch a spelling error.

To the op and other gramma nazi's, how about you guys post in perfect German,Spanish or French and then we can talk. Considering most of you can probally only speak 1 language I really don't think you should even open your bloody mouth.

Besides as for typing on a bloody internet forum goes....why should people even bother to make sure there are no spelling errors I gotta do that 24/7 at work so no reason to bother in my free time.

Aside from dyslexia, there are a host of other ailments that can cause problem of this nature. I know first hand. I not only have problems with spelling and punctuation, but also maintain a thought line. If I get on a "roll" I am staying focused on the point of the topic and if someone can't understand the point of the post through a couple of typos and misspelled words then they have more serious problems than I. If I am not sure about a word, I look it up, but not everyone keeps a lexicon next to their desk. So I must put myself in the camp of the unwashen heathens because sometimes, I make typing errorS......... AND DON'T GIVE A SHIT!

As for Skyjack, I just lost two relatives to cancer. Thank you for you insensitivity regarding a very serious and debilitating disease. Perhaps you try and work on your creative skills a little more and not so much on gramatical correctness. You're not even worth a good example to set you on the right path.

While it does come across as being somewhat trivial, it is hard to take people's posts seriously when they're obviously not paying any attention to their grammar or spelling, and much of the time you really can tell by the nature of such mistakes whether English is their first language.

Yeah, this isn't an English essay forum, but if you want other people to read what you have to say, it's not much to ask that you put a little effort into it. Especially if it's a message you're hoping one of the developers might read.

On the internet you exist as text (and assorted internet slang acronyms) so it is actually worth while IMHO to run a post through a spell check and at least a quick review. It is more important to write sensibly and respectfully. I don't get that worked up about spelling and grammar.

I've just learned to put up with people's spelling. When you take into account that many people don't speak English as a first language and also that the American pulbic school system is grossly inadequete at teaching anything it's really no surprise that 3/4 of the people on the internet don't know the difference between your and you're. It's just something you really have to deal with if you want to read forums because you're not going to be able to educate the entire internet on it.

Having said that though I will take a lot more notice of a post that has correct spelling and decent grammar, why? From experience I've come to realise that posts with good spelling and grammar often come with good arguments and interesting analysis. While it's true that there have been insightful posts with terrible spelling, it's fairly rare, and in my many years visiting forums it's become glaringly apparent that poor spelling is almost always found in the company of poor arguments, irrelevent information and most of all insults and flames.

What I do find funny though is whenever there's a post about English or grammar there's inevitably a guy who has to immediately load up thesaurus.com and construct a post comprised of unnecessarily long words and overly acedemic sentences in an deliberate attempt to obfuscate the meaning of what they're trying to say and therefore sound intelligent and/or funny.

I was going to do it myself but I got bored after "obfuscate" and ended up just writing a normal post.

As a graduate in English language i would like to point out to the nice gentleman that the above sentence is incorrect. It should read like this: -

Seen as you were making the point in the first place i thought you should be made aware of this.

I can personally find 4 grammatical errors in the original post (*you are all*).... but, of course, it is perfectly understandable so why would I need to complain?

This is a very entertainining discussion!

First: the OP needs to learn that any valid comments made were lost when the post became a death threat rant.
Second: In the last 12+ years of being on the internet I have observed that people would rather be economical in their typing rather than have a "nice looking" post. By that I refer to the "short speak," or "internet slang" that used to be common in chat rooms, IM's, etc. when people were trying to communicate at vocal speeds using text. Over the years, that common use has naturally migrated the slang into forums and emails. Half the time I find a non-native English speaker posts a more communicative message than a native speaker using text shortcuts.

In the end it's about communication. If the idea is communicated then most people don't care if it was spelled properly. I will agree that presentation does account for something and a "properly" written post may garner more attention than one written with shortcuts, but if a message is conveyed sucessfully then both methods are equally valid.

Having said that, if newspapers start filling up with text shortcuts because it's a more economical use of typeset, then I will have an issue!

Number 1) It's hardly illiteracy... you understand what they are saying, therefore they have successfully communicated.
