First off, I would like to note that this is not 100% verified information. Second, I would also like to note that this article is more of a prediction based on spatterings of rumors across the internet, base largely upon a large software development project supposedly taking place at Google's Headquarters in Silicon Valley.
I have read several different articles, post, etc. stating that Google is working on some sort of tremendous software project. Most of these articles claimed it was a new operating system that would completely blow Windows, Linux, Mac OS, you name it, out of the water. As stated above, none of these statements are verifiable; They are the spawn of Google's outrageous software development abilites bred with the personal predictions of several computer users across the internet.
But what if Google really was creating some God-Like operating system? What could come out of it? New forms of voice recognition? Faster and more accurate OCR capabilities? Minor degrees of Virtual Reality even? Sure, right now you may be saying, "How, and most importantly, WHY, would Google spend their time and money chewing away at these things when thousand of other people and companies are doing just that?" I'll tell you why. It's because they can. It seems logical that they already have a fairly efficient OCR technology due to the huge amount of books and other written texts that are available at Google Books. And imagine being able to go to Google.com, turn your microphone and say, "Search for 'x'", "Change Preferences", or "Switch to...[froogle, image search, etc.]." And of course the clever reader would say, "I can already do that, because you didn't specify that it would do anything. You just told me to imagine saying it!" Well guess what Mr. HaHa, I caught you in advance this time. So sew your lips together and listen to what I have to say. If this happens, you could search anything on the internet without having to type a single word. You could use simple voice commands to navigate through the entire Google web page. And it would be even cooler if they made voice command plugins for Google Earth and other Google software.
I also mentioned virtual reality. What I had in mind wasn't exactly virtual reality, but I have found that the term 'Virtual Reality' generally attracts a fair amount of attention. However, it could lead to virtual reality. So anyway, back to the original subject. If Google integrated Earth with more powerful 3D imaging technology that could allow you to move and pan from the ground level, somewhat like you were traveling in a helicopter with wheels so it can drive like a car and invincible blades so it wouldn't be destroyed by buildings.

Anyway, somewhat off-topic once again it looks like. But if you could essentially "walk around in the cities and countryside", you could do so many other cool things. Google could eventually create a large-scale virtual reality engine that places the user "into" Google Earth, so they could actually 'walk around on the surface.' I think that would be one of the coolest technoligical breakthroughs in a long time.
At last, I leave you with three simple words...
