VGA vs DVI

confused

This saturday, i change my 2 old monitors (17" 15") they where running on a VGA convertor since my geforce 7800gs+ agp only had DVI outputs.

So i got a 22" widescreen with DVI, and now comes to something i really dont understand. Is that every game is running more smoothly on 1680x1050 then they did on my old screen one on 1280x1024. Some games even have more FPS

I thought that there would be alot of slowdown, when using an higher resolution, but has it something to do with the VGA vs DVI? since i read about that the gfx card has to convert the signal from dvi to vga. And now that it dosent have to, it increases my gfx card?

Its more likely that your new monitor supports a higher refresh rate than your old one(s). Digital to analogue convertors could be a limiting factor in high resolutions but its unlikely for normal resolutions as they go plenty fast enough.

Magic? yeah that might explain the problem..
And to add a bit more, to your theory. My PC has a problem with running programs/games.
Where it will run ekstreamly slow. But if i restart the program/game it will run normaly. It can take a few trys...

Take the CPU test in 3dmark06. When its running slow i get a CPU score of about 400. But if its running crasy good ill get a score of almost a 1000... But the avg score is about 800-900.

I tryed: not to OC, under clock, drivers, virus scans, spyware scans, formating and reinstalling winxp, nothing seem to stop this random slowdown.

Or is there a real explanation to it?

Its not that big of a problem when playing SP games. As i can just restart it.
But if i play MP game, and this random slowdown accours, its a pain in the ... for my fellow players.

weird... did you try to stop most of the background processes? they suck up some resources, example, right now I have 51 processes running, when I play a game I make sure shut some of the unnecessary ones off, and usually have around 31 running when I play a game.

I once had another problem where my system would think a game when running was a virus, and start to scan the system and disinfect it, and I only found out after the game crashed a few times and the AV program was running. That was the first and only year I ever used Norton...

atm i got 40 processes running. For the most of the time i dont shotdown any processes, i can go as low to about 20-25 i think. And im using norton, hmm if not norton then what? since i have used that for years now, never seen any problems
