Okay, time for a new rant! I am sitting here at work as my co-worker peruses ebay to compare prices on the Nintendo Wii. He bought his online for 400.00 as a bundle, because of course no stores around here have them, and wants to track if what he paid was 'fair'. Now they are going for upwards of 650.00 on ebay and one person alone has 12 units for sale. So here it goes...
First, with Nintendo pretty much lagging in the console wars for a good number of years now and finally after all of that putting out a hit system with the Wii... why the f**k aren't they pumping them out like a welfare mom has babies? I mean, more product, more sales, right? What am I missing? Nintendo has a chance to make a serious dent in the other manufacturer's armor and what are they doing with this chance? Who cares if the units are readily available in Japan... this is the USA! WTF!?!
Part two of this rant... shouldn't there be some way to stop these people who CAN get their hands on a bunch of units and then re-sell them on ebay? Profiteering at this level is just sickening and there should be something done about it. I don't care that someone is savvy enough to make a buck, or insightful enough to plan ahead... but to have 12 units available? Now my co-worker just showed me that one guy was boasting he sold 175 units and that he knew of another guy who had sold over 300 units. Where the hell are they getting these games if there are none in the stores?
I know, the majority in here will probably say "more power to him" or "wish I would have thought of that" or "so what's wrong with that" and I can deal with that. I myself would probably do the same thing, just not to that extreme of an extent. My problem with this is it is definitely 'profiteering', something that I thought the authorities frowned upon, and yet nothing is being done. I guess I really shouldn't care since I am not the sucker parting with 600.00 for a 250.00 system and eventually, when I am ready for one, there will be shelves filled with them, but I do care. I care enough that if I knew where one of those guys lived I'd pay him a visit with an old fashioned Louisville Slugger and knock a few out of the park... or off his shoulders I should say.
I thought there was a law against profiteering... or am I wrong?
