Sure in the states I can be sued for pulling someone out of a burning car and injure their neck but I will probably get away with it unless I am a medical professional and actually trained to do so. That makes the law ten times more foolish to me. If you cry out is there a doctor in the house all the doctors run for the door.

that's not totally true. as a public servant in a family of public servants, the really good ones bend the rules. when we get things done, we have to hide the fact.

there was a great quote in one of the Dune books, something like: i would gladly submit to the sound judgement of a single man over the cold procedure of law. (the idea is that laws can't take context into consideration. i'd add that too much emphasis on law makes people blind to the values those laws were supposed to protect or encourage).

In Australia i had to laugh when i saw a report on how women in Darwin had to travel hundreds of kilometers to Brisbane to have their babies.

Why?

Because women had sued doctors so much in Darwin that they simply refused to deliver any more babies!

For most women, labor isn't quite that painful! Nevertheless, i am sure there have been plenty of instances of seriously injured people having that happen to them.

Well to be fair, if a womans life was in danger then those doctors would treat them of course, just for normal delivery, they have to go to different city.

Also another point i forgot to mention is that the reason the doctors refused to deliver babies anymore was primarily because of the cost of the insurance. Since so many women were suing doctors in Darwin, the insurance premiums sky rocketed and became untenable.

My whole argument is basically this.... since the society of pregnant women as a whole in Darwin, chose to sue doctors so frivilously, they got sucked in by doctors shutting the door on them, i say the women they got their just reward for such behaviour.

I m against it cause who will pay for it!
