I realize that traditional animation is all but dead at Disney. Unfortunately for Disney their last few old style animated tales were basically flops. Outside of Pixar movies, Disney's animated movies of late have been disappointing at the box office, and also somewhat for viewers that grab the DVDs to watch them at home.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the relatively recent Disney film Meet the Robinsons, which was a darling little movie, but it was not a big hit when it was in theatres, and though it seems to have sold well on DVD and Blu-ray, it's far from the mega hit that movies like Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean series was, or the Pixar tale Ratatouille was (which was a great movie by the way).
What inspires my question is the thought that I had ages ago when Disney had come out with Aladdin, the Little Mermaid, Tarzan, Pocahantas and the like. At that point in time my thoughts were initially that if Disney was going to go back to the classic stories that I remember reading in my youth, then they might go after making an animated feature length version of something like Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
In anycase, I wonder what other suggestions people might have for subjects/characters that Disney should try to tackle via animated movie.
