Begging the readers forgiveness a bit, I'm going to cheat a little here and simply link over to the detailed reviews I've been writing over on Amazon.com I'll put in a few quick words here, but for indepth comments on movies I've been watching, check out my Amazon reviews and get the whole story.
Going in somewhat chronological order, most recently viewed was: P.S. I Love You. (Hilary Swank, Kathy Bates, Gina Gershon, Lisa Kudrow, Gerard Butler, James Marsters (who doesn't use an accent here), Harry Connick Jr., Jeffrey Dean Morgan, more...) over the weekend.
Mrs. and I both enjoyed it. It tilt's toward Chick flick, but not badly so. Worth a rental at least (from my perspective).
Next up was an older title that I just got around to watching. I really shouldn't have bothered as it just wasn't that good, but here goes: The Heartbreak Kid. Ben Stiller, Jerry Stiller, Carlos Mencia, and sadly no Cameron Diaz (and really could have used her!!)
I really must apologize to my wife for getting her to watch that movie with me. Bleh.
I sat and watched Charlie Wilson's War by my lonesome. Mrs. was busy with other things and didn't have time to watch and really wasn't that enthusiastic to see the film anyway.
I enjoyed the film a lot, though I think it gives too much credit to former Rep. Charlie Wilson for his role in hastening the demise of the former Soviet Union.
Updated to add: if you are a fan of Aaron Sorkin you really should look for this flick. Sorkin did the screenplay/movie script adaptation over from the original novel and really did a nice job with it. The entire cast/crew/production team really should be complimented on their work here as their final product really shines.
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Albert Finney, Marisa Tomei (and a body double that is smokin' hawt) and more.
Sidney Lumet directed. Personally I don't think it was Lumet's best work and I really think the film was overhyped and didn't live up to inflated expectations.
Yet another that the Mrs. missed out on as she was too busy to watch it while I had the rental disc. Not really her type of movie though, so I don't think she'd be too disappointed.
Lions for Lambs was fairly interesting but I could see why many ignored it when it was in theatres. Writing was pretty good, character dialogue was reminiscent of Aaron Sorkin's style, and the concept was interesting but also a bit contrived and unrealistic.
The last of the most recent movie watching stack that the Mrs. didn't catch (or the first of the stack, depending on how you look at it...) Not really a 'date night' type movie anyway.
That's the end of the list for now but you can find all of the reviews I've done at Amazon via the first link if you'd like. If you have the time and inclination, feel free to register a few votes on which reviews there were helpful for you. I always appreciate the feedback
