I'd buy a game produced by Stardock on their track record with games, forum presence, post publish support, and stance of DRM.

Even if you don't like the game, consider it an investment in a company you want to succeed.

It's tough to say. My favorite part of Supreme Commander is the intense 1v1 battles on smaller maps with the ACU as the central focus. Demigod seems like it could recreate that and then improve it by a magnitude. I'm also a huge fan of teamwork in other games (5v5 fights in WoW are actually very enjoyable), so Demigod was an obvious choice for me. How can you not love a game with angels, a giant walking castle, and a giant walking tree?

Ah, I join in a little late.

One of the biggest incentives for me was the way the game has been developed. These days many games are centered around graphics. From the concept up. This has sorely hurt gameplay. Let me explain.

Many game developers have good ideas and want to make excellent games, however, they lack money. To get the money needed for the game, they have to convince someone else who likely knows very little about programming and game development to give them money. How do they do this? By showing beautiful screen shots/concept art of the game. If the person/organization with money likes what they see, then they will fund the project, however, they will want constant updates on the progress to ensure that their money is being well spent. Again, these updates will have to come in the form of graphics/renders because they seem to be the most effective for lay users. In the end, the game is released. It may look pretty, but is it a good game? Resources from the very start have been poured into graphics instead of gameplay. The art team has to constantly be ahead of the curve trying to keep a good portfolio for the funder. Many games come out and sadly, aren't fun to play.

There are a few developers out there that have enough cash on hand that they can make their own decisions and their own pace. In the case of this game, the entire game was constructed using white boxes (stick people or block people) to prove up gameplay. There was no interruption in the process to make sure that so and so character looked good for upcoming meeting with the sponsor. Everything was poured into making the block people fun to play. After GPG got to that point where the game was fun and enjoyable in its primitive form, then the monster graphics engine of Supreme Commander was actively employed along with a talented arts group to flesh out the game.

This way of approaching the game is what makes me most excited. Yes I enjoy most all of the games it references or was inspired by, but I look forward to playing a game that is fun regardless of the graphics (bonus).

Can your computer play Supreme Commander? If so you should be set. If it struggles or looks like a slideshow, then it may not be worth it.

I don´t know if my computer is able to run Supreme Commander.
If I compare some screenshots from Supreme Commander with Demigod, I´m not sure if Demigod will run as smooth as Supreme Commander maybe would run on my computer.

I will try out the Supreme Commander Demo and if this demo will run in a good way (not everything of low-) I will pre order Demigod.

But I have still one question. I will take the "only download" way, but the download and retail box way. There will be extra taxes for shipment etc. I´m living in germany, so how much will it cost in the end? In the info box there are some costs listed:

Is it true, that I will have to pay 49,95$ + 20-25$? So in the end ~75$ (~48€)?

In the past we've filled direct orders with Collector's Editions (GalCiv2, Sins), but nothing's been decided or announced in that regard for Demigod so far.

I don't like the idea of only digital downloads.

Impulse allows you to back up yoru files.  You can then restore from Impulse when you want.

I'd like to echo this. I prefer a box copy, but unless I'm getting something.... more, I don't think it's worth the extra $20 or so to get it shipped out to me. Not to mention customs charges, because anything from another country could be a bomb. Or drugs. Or both.

I was convinced before the Trailer.

But since hte trailer.. I'm giddy.

The animations are better than any I've seen in a fantasy-themed game.
I've seen better ones in ones based on real life/modern, but barely so, and without the neat stuff you can do in fantasy.

Animators are obviously underappreciated as it seems dev teams just hire them at random or hire the one that'll work for cheapest. It's so rare to see such amazing animations.

Pretty nice particle effects and shaders too. And I hope the light really looks that good in the final game.. I know the video had post processing But it's not like you can't post process real-time in game!
