What's in a name?

Calling it Anubis would be baddd. ;/And any not easily recognizable name is bad too, IMO. :/"Sounds good" and "pronouncible" aren't enough qualifications on their own IMO..They need to be cool like "The Rook"...


I don't believe having an obscure name (and I don't think Anubis is an obscure name) should be a negative thing. I think it adds to the character of the game.

If you look at one of the other demigod's, Regulus, he is a fallen angel and yet if you look at wikipedia for Regulus it talks about that term meaning little king or prince, which is a good association with angel.

Heck, if you look up Seraphim (from Supcom) it means angel, which is a good explanation of the aliens initially by the Humans/Aeons before the start of the war.

My vote is to keep the vampire lord until PAX when we can get a good look at him and decide afterwards. Or throughout the beta even. Trying to name something from nothing is too hard. It's like having a child and naming it "Beth" only to find out you had a son...

Bhuta is Indian,
Ramanga is African,
Kali is Hindu.

I don't know why Egyptian, or for that matter Japanese, is an issue? Please enlighten me.

With respect to what Brn4meplz said, I agree, it is a bit hard selecting a name when we haven't seen a picture of the Vampire Lord.

Anubis is overused in my opinion, and if he doens't look Egyptian or dog-like it wouldn't really fit.

Like Gnats said. Egyptian mythology names are very commonly used. For example, Anubis was one of the main bad guys in Stargate SG1 for I think 2 or so seasons. Whenever I think "Anubis", I automatically think of him now. And a lot of other people will, too.

Anything that's too easy to associate with something from today's "pop culture" would not be a very good name. By itself, Anubis is a great name and a favorite of mine. But it is overused, which isn't an issue for the other ones you named

Because Anubis looks like a freaking dog? I doubt that's what the character looks like in Demigod so it'd be .. ugh I can't even think of a word bad enough.



SG1 uses Anubis because their whole freaking story is based around how the whatevers came and made people build pyramids and worship them and blah blah.
And their armors DO look Egyptian.

If the Demigod currently named "Vampire Lord" looks like a dog, I'll eat my hat. If it doesn't, which I'm damn sure of, I have the satisfaction of winning.

The villain in the Mummy movies was a mummy named Imhotep. They found stuff in the Temple of Anubis in the first movie, thinking they were unearthing Hamunaptra instead.

Anubis was the god of death after all In any case, it's way too known of a symbol to use. And, like innociv kindly pointed out, dog man != vampire (Technically, it's a jackal I believe...)

And, for more technicality, they actually did find Hamunaptra in the movie. He was buried at the base of the statue of Anubis

But I like Dr. Acula and Betelgeuse wayyyy more because they have a meaning to them.

Thanks for explaining that you didn't like Anubis due to its representation of it being a Jackal God. I think from a visual perspective, it would be unlikely that the Vampire Lord would look like a dog, so that's a fair comment, it's just that you didn't indicate that at the start so I was unsure why you were dead against it.

Btw, do you have a web link to Betelgeuse, the only thing I can find is about the Betelgeuse star.

And IIRC, AFAIK, the Vampire Lord can raise termit beetle thingies or something.

Yes, and the characters name.

On the first impressions thing on gamesradius the reviewer says the "Vampire Lord" has an aura that lowers enemy units armor, does DoT, and if a unit dies while under the aura they have a chance to coming back to life under the "Vampire Lord's" control as like beetle things or something, unless i'm remembering wrong.

So Beetlejuice sounds appropriate. But Betelgeuse is cooler and less copywrite infringing.

I am fond of "Fang", if its a young vampire. "Jaws" for a funny name. Any old tongue would work, like "Mortuus" = latin for dead. And if you want to get real into it, you can change "Mortuus" to "Mortus" to make a reference to the steed the Grim Reaper rides in some mythos...
