I'll agree though, giving a bonus to someone who is winning is BAD.
It's the "snowball effect" i've mentioned in another thread. As the snowball gets bigger it's rate of growth increases even more. This is bad for games. Someone who can get 15 kills with out dying, or get 3 kills within 30 seconds, does NOT need further help with killing people.
Unreal Tournament's strategic points. As you capture more, you spawn closer to the enemies base. You also get access to more weapons/vehicles. Games ends sooner rather than later depending on the map and the fortifications of the home base (remember on 2003 the tank in the woods? game over).
Sometimes the snowball is intentional to keep matches short and the final blow brief.
oD4 has this with the airstrike and helicopter. I've never played a game where it's so easy to get 100 kills while only having 5 deaths.
I call BS. I have put in over 300 hours on COD4 and have never ever seen anyone get 100 kills with only 5 deaths. I've only ever seen 1 person get 100 kills on a HQ game of Shipment and he had around 60 deaths. Maybe your just exaggerating to make a point. Sure, there are some (particularly snipers who aren't directly in the mix) that may go 30 kills and only 2 or 3 deaths. In those cases its actually an advantage to die because after 7 deaths, there are no more bonuses. No more heli's airstrikes, etc unless you die and start again. Yes there's a brief snowball, and a reward for doing a difficult task (3, 5, 7 kills in a row), so what? Its tough enough in a game to get 7 kills in a row, whats wrong with rewarding a player for accomplishing a difficult task? The same reward is available to both teams equally.
The best player in Demigod presumably is going to have an advantage with more gold, maybe more XP too, like DotA. But hopefully unlike DotA the expensive items aren't better performance-per-cost than the cheaper ones.
Why not? As a player, you've earned it. If one player/team is that much better than the other team, why keep the game close? Why not reward a player/team for winning? Because its frustrating for the losing team/players? They have the same opportunity to be rewarded.
At some point, a Demigod will reach max level. The level differential in itself is an advanatage. You could argue that this is
giving a bonus to someone who is winning. However, once you hit the level limit thats it. The only thing you can distinguish yourself is with items. If there's not a significant advantage for the winning team (strategic points, upper tier items advantage, superior creeps {ala dota}), then the game drags on and soon all the Demigods will be at the same level pushing the game time and moving towards a stalemate. If this is the type of game GPG is looking to make, thats fine. But they have expressed interest in keeping matches between 20 to 40 minutes, to keep it fast paced. I'm sure matches can go longer, but it should be the exception not the norm.
If the team that gets to max level first has some momentum to end the game, then so be it.
Frankly a little snowballing is a good thing in fast paced games.
