Darkness And Light?

I know this game was based on dota but were any of its ideas taken from the game darkness and light?? If you dont know what it is heres a gameplay video of it on youtube, this game was also similar to dota.

Anyways i heard that the skill hot keys would be QWER?? these were the same hot keys used in Darkness And Light. I think its much easier for players to be using only 4 hot keys, makes us learn quicker. Also DAL had a ranking system, which was great to keep the leavers/laggers out of the game.

QWER is a standerd hotkey setup, hell 90% of my warcraft 3 maps used QWER for skills, and a good part of my hl2 mods use QWER as well. (though they are, quick switch, forward, use, and reload, but thats besides the point )

I think they are going to make them f1-f4. I wish they where 1-4 though, and shift+1-4 for items or something..

I'm guessing they have 1-4 used for hotgroups? I don't see why not just make hotgroups be the f1-f4 keys since i imagine skills and items would be used more..

bindability is always good but at least have all the demigods on the same shortcut keys cuz in dota the heroes all had different hotkeys and i ended up ending it with custom keys so i use qwer asdf and it works great

Bindability is nessisary, but having good defaults is also important.

QWER is a fine default. If you want it different you can rebind them.

I don't honestly care whether it's 1234 or qwer, but if it's F1 F2 F3 F4, I'm going to rage. There is no reason to make the player pull their hand so far away from the rest of the keys.

If the controlls are like those in supreme commander it should not be a problem...

By that I mean the only keyboard commands you will probally use is f1-f4, IF it is like supreme commander.

True. I'd still much rather have it be 1-4, because then if I do really need to use another key, I'm not on a differently shaped set of keys whose position in relation to the others varies from keyboard to keyboard.

Yeah me too. I never use my F keys. They are bleh on my keyboard.

Actually i don't understand why we need hotgroups like RTS have( the ctrl+1 to create, press 1 to select)

Why would you EVER deselect your Demigod?

I heard they are going to make it so Generals don't directly control their menus, but the minions will follow the General around and you can give "move here" sort of orders like in squad-based-games. In which case you would never need to deselect your demigod.. which imo would be great..

A picture of what? My keyboard? It's either a standard lenovo laptop keyboard or a logitech wave. They're pretty different to start with, but the function keys just make a farce of my attempts to use them blind. They're seperated differently, located differently (the lenovo ones are way farther left than I'd like and the wave ones are really high and make reaching for the rest of the keys too slow. Also, they're smaller than the normal keys, so I can't just move my hand, I have to change my finger seperation, and that's just terrible ergonomics. It's just not good to use them.
