For what it costs? I haven't had one myself. But, my ex roomate had one for a little while, an XP machine with simple file sharing would have served just as well.
I used linux for a bit but now use opensolaris b98. Shared as an SMB network via CIFS, and using secondcopy as a backup procedure.
The "it sucks" was actually not appropriate. I should have said "why pay for it for when you can get open source OS?" and since the server is just that, serving, and not browsing the internet. I have no need to worry about a virus cought on a windows machine spreading to the server via the network. (due to it being a different OS, not due to inherant MS weekness... although its nice that there are practically no viruses written for nix os, it is probably due to lack of marketshare) (not that it happens anyways, I run a tight ship, but for someone else it could be an issue)
