I wanted to share some videos of Windows 7 that have been coming out of PDC this week.  There are all types of good stuff here.

You know this will stimulate another growth spurt in the tech hardware market. I look to see table top screens.......no one will want to hold their arms up for hours to use a vertical screen.....something either built into the table top or tilted like the old drafting tables will eventually be the big "winner"

That table concept is kinda old, Lantec. And yes it's supposed to be like your living room table FYI.

So ... will it be better than XP and Vista? Microsoft better hope so, and I concur with Frogboy that I hope its going to be 64-bit only. I'm willing to make the change, so should everyone else.

The old drafting table (~45 deg angle) is probably the most comfy, but I can see fold out arms on chairs, sofas ... from walls or from under cabinets in the kitchen coming also.

May stimulate the furniture and all sorts of other businesses. Yum Yum.

Touching my screen with hands? No way. That screen'll get marks all over it soon enough.

 

That's why I never allow people to touch my lcd montior, thank you very much.

 

That said, it's definitely a cool tech, it's just that it will get dirty.

I really like the fact that when you hover over tabs they change color based on the app.  Also, I like that when you hover over the taskbar buttons your curser acts like a "light" over them (see the last vid).  I guess it's just the arty side of me coming out.

  Windows in the Cloud is an interesting thought, as computing and gaming moves to the net, it will be interesting to watch and see what happens.

I can't imagine anything better than Vista Ultimate (with dreamscenes), but I am very excited about this. I got the beta at PDC and am loading tonight. I know it wont be as good as the final, but hey, I just gotta see it! I just hope dreams run on Windows 7 when it is released.

The 'peek' feature is interesting.

I'm not sure if I like the touch screen or not. I have a hard enough time seeing my screen as it is (bad eyes), without a bunch of fingerprints and smudges on it.

How to make Win closer in looks to OS X?

Lets make Win 7 and by the time we reach Win 11 we might, just might, get there...

Problem is it will still be bloated and insecure...

If microsoft makes it 64 bit only..it will force corporate client to switch.  they can set up some deadline for it, so that clients have time to switch.

We're not saying get rid of backwards compatibility, just that we want an OS that forces people to start writing 64-bit code.

I recently installed Vista Home Premium x64 and all the apps that run on Vista x84 run on it flawlessly.... even all my hardware has x64 compatible drivers except my webcam at present, apparently they're working on it so I'm not worried about it and can boot into Vista Ultimate 32bit or XP Pro 32bit.  So yeah, all this baloney about x64 incompatability is just that, baloney and the fear of change... the refusal to move on and try something different.  It's totally illogical but some people will continue to have closed minds, regardless of technological progress making things even better again.

As for Windows 7, it looks pretty darned exciting and I can't wait to try it out when the first public betas are released. I rather like the taskbar/thumbs improvement and the way it handles/deals with windows... very nice and most welcomed.

I must admit though, upon seeing that monitor in the first clip, I did suffer with screenis envy.  I recently got myself and the missus a 22" ViewSonic each, and I've been truly happy with mine... 'til now!  It'll never be good enough, not now I've seen that rather large 'touchyfeely' monitor in action.

Looks good, I'm glad they're trying to use better docks. They should get a contract with Stardock to use Stardock's docks, which would save them a lot of time!
