I had a play around with a tactic as Rook alongside a friend (also playing rook) earlier yesterday, after we noticed that allied rook towers of light (shoulder mounted and summoned) link together as well. Essentially we both put a point into tower power and got the shoulder mounted tower to link up to. Then we used wands of speed and teleport persistant items to wreak some havoc; we were able to get some good siege in very early on this way (one rook heads to enemy base, puts up tower, other rook ports in, raises another tower, there are now 4 towers, both rooks included, linked up in a chain) which added some money to the pot, but we found that unless the towers that rook creates or has on his soulder are linked with the towers at the base, the damage is pathetic.
While it could be argued that the towers rook places are for extending the range of the towers at base (whereby they keep the big damage the towers at base do), or purely for team mates to port to, I think this does a disservice to what could be an interesting tactic and alternate spec to the already old "boulder and hammer" routine.
