I played 3 or 4 games online with the latest version, and I can finally see this game getting to the point of playability. Using DGs requires thought and strategy as you plan your abilities and items, and battling Demigods is more than just throwing all your abilities at them and hoping they die. However, it's not quite at the point where I think it needs to be.
Here's some things I think need to be changed:
-Unit Collision: Ok, so I maneuver around the map and get in a position behind an enemy DG, my armoy of 10+ units charge forth aaannnd... they simply walk through my army to safety. Ugh. Ok, I try again and they don't run, and there's a pile of units on them... or at least I think that's them? Lack of virtually any unit collision means enemy heroes can walk straight through an army virtually unscathed. You can't surround them and keep them from running, and then if you do everything gets lost in a sea of units. I would suggest increasing any collision there is (at least on the smaller demigods, perhaps ones like the Rook can just walk over small armies) so unit positioning matters and to increase visibility and quick identification of units.
-Lack of traditional RTS controls: I really felt the pain of this one today while controlling my armies. As far as I know, there's no way to set control groups (although the quick selection buttons help, it might not be enough for some). The only way to set an attack move order is with alt-rightclick, and this feels really clunky coming from other RTS-style games. Additionally, a lack of a simple "Stop" button makes it hard to control the timing of spells and movement. Perhaps an option to set keys for these kinds of controls?
-Various UI things: Ok, so I have to scroll over the healthbars to see my HP and mana, and when I'm in the middle of a battle trying to calculate if I have enough to cast these two spells... it's just not possible. An option to have these permanently on (by default I hope) should be included. Additionally, there's no simply way to see the HP of your army as a whole. The only way to even see another unit's HP is to scroll over it. There should be an option for permanent health bars or a button to show them. I like how you can actually see the numerical value of enemy DG's HP, although it seems bugged at the moment and shows apparantly random numbers. Showing enemy mana bars and perhaps items would also add another level of strategy.
-Game-winning strategies: Currently the only viable way to win is to upgrade your citadel. You can't keep up at all if you don't upgrade your units. This makes them essentially mandatory, and at that point you might as well make it automatic. Make citadel upgrades an option, so you can invest in items instead if your strategy mandates it. Perhaps reducing the health of higher-tier units.
-Unit damage: Ok, so I have 8 giant Yeti's beating down an enemy General, along with a couple other summoned units, and her health sloooowwllly goes down. Perhaps I need another look, but summoned unit damage might need a little buff, but perhaps not; I'm still unsure on this.
