Hello to everyone,
I only found out today that Demigod could be played in Beta and having anticipated it much i decided to get it straight away. So far so good, but there are a few ideas that may already have been discussed in the forum or not, hopefully some may be new.
Please bear in mind I am a rather passionate player of DotA and many RTS including SupCom.
Note also this is going to be a quick post without too many in depth ideas at this time but I would be happy to ponder more on them if people think it like I do or similarly
Mouse scrolling and zooming:
I don't know if its something that is just linked to the Beta version but I do believe it would be nice if the mouse scrolling could be added, sometimes I prefer to "nudge" the screen around just using th emouse while I am zoomed in as well as the fact that its a fairly common thing to expect from an RTS game.
With zooming I found that often now and then the camera won't zoom right out at certain angles meaning you have to either use the WASD keys or do a double zoom to get to the place you want to view which can be a little annoying if you are trying to get around.
Death and Respawn:
I don't mind at all the time of death I am used to the really frustrating increasing repawn time with the increase in levels of DotA, however (as said in the post from yesterday) I too think that it would be nice to not have the grey screen where you cannot see anything going on at all, I would like to be able to carry on watching the game and maybe also be able to browse the shops while I am dead. I don't think there is any need to veil anything that isnt normally visible to you in game with your allies while you are alive. Maybe to make it have the same feeling as the grey screen use a tainted orange screen to give it the feeling of a demigod dying and passing to be a legend or something similar or even that may be too much.
Shops and Items:
I don't know if its just because I am playing computers but even though i kill and destroy everything the Artifacts don't seem to be Items you can really build up to get easily in a game unless you decide to start saving up on one from the start without buying anything. Maybe, change the prices or something.
I hate the fact that i cannot look at a shop until I am there and also I cannot remind myself of the stats of the items that I have already bought and equiped from the character menu. I believe you should be able to browse the shops (when visible through the FOW) because sometimes you want to read an items stats as you are sending your character to heal.
I find also that the choice of items is very limited and every player really only will have 1-2 good builds to choose so far. I have only played about 3-4 games with every Demigod but I found it very easy to piece together the best set of items and though its good, its quite limited. Sometimes you need alternative builds on items to counteract certain situations or tailor make your own build from a set of generalised items, and yes I am thinking of some DotA games here.
Health and Mana Bars:
One thing i find very useful of the good old alt key in WC3 and other RTS is that with one button you could have a look at all the health bars of the visible enemies and friendlies on the field, To not be able to do that in Demigod is quite frustrating and limiting even for team playing cause you have to hoose between looking at your friends health bar or that of your opponent by sliding over them with the mouse.
Also its annoying that you cannot see the mana of at LEAST your allies, I can understand having the secrecy for the opposing team. This reminds it would also be nice to see the ITEMS your allies buy, maybe so you can share things like potions, adding a bit of available teamworking and also, sometimes helping out a teammate who is doing a wrong build of items.
Visibility in Combat:
Another thing I am finding quite annoying is the overcrowding of creep that actually hide your player and your allies in the melee, My idea is related to the alt key as a health bar displaying button, maybe that same button could HIGHLIGHT at least your friendly demigods (as well as yours maybe in a different colour say your allies are green you are blue) within the melee, I don't mind if the enemies arent highlighted cause it is quite nice how you can use the melee confusion to sneak up on someone because they couldnt make you out.
Creep minimum control:
This may be a bit of a bit idea, but the first time I saw the manner in which the towers fired by havving th ebeam travel through all of them I at first believed it was a creep pathway control mechanism, I believe it would be interesting if during the game you could edit the pathway the creeps took, It can open up a lot of possibilities, but obviously it should not be too complex otherwise it would change the fundamental of the Demigod on Demigod battle and become a standard hero and army RTS.
Favor Points (such a waste at the moment):
Its nice to have a series of items that are nto obtainable through money collection, But honestly, until I figured out that it was from Achievement points I was hoping it would be something a lot more interesting and it would push a player to play in th ebattlefield more. Since the essence of the game is DEMIGODS fighting to achieve the FAVOR of the GODS, it woudl be cool that you earn favour points by being heroic on th ebattlefield, maybe related to how many demigods you kill without dying and how many creeps you slay, towers you destry (etc) and that you build up these points in the game to access that single list of favor point items. Maybe it would also be nice that the points you obtain in a first match can be carried through to a rematch, and that you can purchase more than one item on that list even though you can have only 1 equiped at any given time. In te end having the favor points will be useless, after two game any noob can have the whole list of items available... you only need 2 achievements or so, hence it becomes just an extra optional choice of item at the beginning which isnt exciting and doesnt add strategic actions and decisions into the game in order to get something that heals you for 1000HP...
So far these are the ideas I believe would improve the game quite a bit, I'm curious to see what you guys think.
