Well I found it intersting that a 1v1 where the ping between 2 people is 300ms would cause such slowdowns. Shoot I remember playing Starcraft on a 56k with no lag problems, tell me how this game has a higher bandwidth requirement than starcraft 1 (don't confuse cpu/ram/graphics card requirements with network req)?
Though I noticed that some games approach lag differently. In demigod the game performs choppy like low frames per second, however other games perform badly by having a lag between issuing a command and it being executed but at least animations and such go on normally and AI do their thing. So click-to-move and it happens 1 second later.
The question is which is better? The delay or the chopiness. Personally I like the delay better, the choppiness makes me frustrated when playing. I would say tolerate a say... 1 second delay, then make it choppy.
