Howdy.
I'm not in the beta or anything, but I did get an email from Stardock saying that Demigod will be going on sale in a few weeks. I hadn't heard much about it lately, but I remembered hearing a while back that it was going to be like DotA, which sounds cool to me. So I clicked the link in the email, and it took me to the preorder page. It said the pre-order was $50 bucks!! This is only a multiplayer game, right? "$50 bucks is a lot." is what I thought. There's no way I'm paying $50 bucks for DotA.
Then I checked the email again. The email said the MSRP is $40 bucks. What? So I went back to the pre-order page, clicked the Add-to-Cart button (listed at $50 bucks). The price of the pre-order in the cart is about $40 bucks. What? The website says $50. The email advert says $40. The cart also says $40. Which is it?
As a pretty much non-informed potential customer, here's my quick take... I would pay, at most, $35 bucks for this game. Even that is asking a lot, for just a multiplayer game. And not just a multiplayer game, but a game that has a competitor that I can play for free in Warcraft 3. There's pros and cons, and tons of arguments that could go back and forth between us. Game features, graphics, clan support, etc. We could argue. But we won't. Bottom line... multiplayer game only. I'll spend $35 bucks at most... Digital Download only? Sounds great to me! But times are tough... and there are plenty of good games out now that I could buy for PS3, Xbox360, or PC games over Steam... especially with those Steam sales they're always having.
Anyway, just my two cents. At the very least, it might be a good idea to sort out the pricing stuff... so as not to confuse customers.
