I know at least a handful of the beta testers of this game gave Hellgate: London or it's little sister project, Mythos a try. Well this post is for those that, like me, had high hopes for Mythos. Even if you never heard of Mythos, if you're a fan of Diablo games, roguelikes, or Action/RPGs in general, this post is for you.
After Flagship Studios closed down, bringing their Seattle team down as well, the Seattle team reformed as Runic Games (July 2008). The development team has been (mostly) silent for a while now, working on making their game and getting a publishing deal. Some small interviews have popped up here and there, but throughout all of them, we never got a name for their game.
However, some of the head guys of Runic attended the GDC this week, where they caught up with one of their fans (and former co-workers at Flagship Studios, Taylor Balbi) who managed to get a hands-on of the game, as well as finally weasel a name out of them.
Here's hoping Torchlight will be everything Mythos was going to be, and more!
For the Stardock fans in the audience, who love the company's semi-support for mods, there has been a lot of hinting from the Dev team that Torchlight (which will be entirely Single Player for reasons currently unknown to us, but we do know they're also making an MMO set in the same world with similar gameplay) will be highly moddable, possibly even to the point that toolkits for doing such are being developed alongside the game.
Torchlight is supposedly on schedule to be released sometime this year, so...
time is running out to jump on the bandwagon!
