Unclean Beast - nightmare

This section of the forum looks like its in need of a little more discussion!

So i've decided to do a short, but hopefully informative write-up of how i find success as the UB.

the first thing to consider, is the UB's general stats.. you'll notice he has a higher speed than the other demigods - but sacrifices health - at least in the early stages.

So to start with, i reccomend purchasing the 1k boots that give +10% speed, should make it a lot easier to keep ontop of whichever DG you are trying to apply pressure to, and will further increase the UB's selling point - Speed!

Once you've played a few tournaments you should have enough Favour points to unlock the assasin upgrade that gives a bonus to weapon strength, with a 15% chance to increase your attakc rate by 50% for 5 seconds..

this is an extremely powerful item when employed by the UB. stacking up some other + attack rate items.. allows the 50% attack speed boost to be triggered a lot more than youd think, this combined with high Bestial Rage can be lethal - very fast.

My General skill progression is to level bestial rage and grab the first rank of the venom spit ASAP, destroying the creeps as fast as you can untill you hit level 5, and unlock post mortem - with luck/efficient play this can be achieved suprisingly fast. at this point its simply a case of farming those creeps, whilst venom spitting any DG that comes near.

I find that once i am relatively set up with semi decent equipment, at around level 7-8, it is possible to teleport to an enemy DG, and completely obliterate it in seconds if the 50% boost triggers, if it does not, then you will severely maim the enemy, but be forced to withdraw in most cases. - Don't forget to apply Venom spit at the start of the combo.. your physical attacks when sped up, mixed with the venom make for some jaw dropping Ouch factor - enough to make my mate rage-quit quite a few times

Haven't had much sleep tonight, been up playing some lan fights with a couple of mates - so if i've missed something out, or if something doesn't make sense, please tell me and ill add more detail!

Summary:

Play to UB's Strengths, get +attack speed and + speed items

Live to fight again, if its gone tits up, RUN - use that speed - dont give the enemy that gold boost

Suprise is key.. make use of teleports, or warps, distractions.. anything you can to get a suprise strike, if all goes well you can disable an enemy in under 5 seconds.

Don't bother trying to do an all out 1v1 with the above setup, at least not untill you have leveled up a bit.

soften up a group of enemies by Spitting at the weakest enemy, and then run, and return and spit, be annoying, frustrate them, wait for one to make a mistake by overextending - then grab the kill.

good info ive played a few multiplayer matches tonight and absolutely destroyed people with the UB.

My general setup is different than yours, i dont get bestial rage at all, but thats because i dont have enough favor points to get the assasin upgrade, i have the health vial or w/e its called.

Since at the start of the game your speed is already faster what i suggest is getting the +attack gloves, should be the first one. Put your first point in the spit, just like you did, the second point in ooze, you may want to get the passive bonus right below the spit line too, just 1 or 2 points max. Basically you want to get points in the spit tree till you can get the life drain.. then upgrade spit/lifedrain. The ooze is fine at level 1 for a while, keep it on to farm creeps and spit on any demigod near u. For an enemy DG, I prefer spitting on them first and then insta draining their life as a suprise before they can react.

Always have 2 teleport scrolls with you, even more important than health. Teleport back to your base to heal up, buy another scroll/upgraded equipment, then teleport to a friendly fortress/flag. Its cheaper and doesnt waste a potion slot.

Now depending on the DG's you are up against you may want to buy some +movement speed shoes, many games i just buy the speed increase talisman and get 2 chests or gloves instead of shoes because the defense or attack power gain is so huge. If you feel like you are still getting outrun a lot, then of course buy shoes.

Oh and any spare money you have, if a long way from your next upgrade item, spend it on the citadel!. I reccomend the health bonus first, followed by the xp and currency bonus.. these are most important to get early as an income advantage and a higher level than your opponent pays off. Dont put too much in tower health, i found in all my games its better to invest in better creeps, they keep the pressure on the enemy DG;s and will destroy enemy creeps to get to their towers, holding the enemy dg back for a while.

Now my last game i came out of was long, mainly because i felt like i was doing all the flag capping, upgrading and strategic work for my team.. who didnt even read chat. But getting the early income/exp and flag advantage meant i could slaughter the enemy DG's and rack up xp on creeps while they respawned. Here is how it turned out, most of my deaths were only by attacking their last fortress.

I forgot to mention a few things which i will add in

Level 1-5 for me are Crucial - if you play them right, you can set yourself up for a very dominant game.

Level 1 - Spit

Level 2 - Bestial Rage

Level 3 - Ooze (so useful in so many ways)

4) - Your Choice

Level 5) Post Mortem

the mix of Spit + bestial rage make it very easy for you to get some early ganks in on any stragglers.

i find i have no use for the heal attack (altho i put 1 point in it for the Stun either way)

i tend to go all out attack with my UB - stacking multiple gloves each with its on "% on hit" effect - stacking up your hits/second means these things are triggering CONSTANTLY - for my builds maxxed out stats...

to put it bluntly the damage becomes "oh my god"

600-700 per hit (conservative) on a 0.5 second hitrate, with cleaves, evescerates, fiery blasts etc going off at huge rates.. (add roughly 100DPS from those, if u get unlucky with the triggers) + the spit damage which if ur enemy is a tower, or an idiot, is an extra 200dps.

at level 20 i end up with roughly 4800 HP - glass cannon, with low armour rating too..

however, the damage output is insane, and once you have the item that costs 4-5k forget exactly.. but it allows you to heal HP/Mana by 3000 over 10 seconds.. once you have that.. you can just tele in.. smack down the damage.. and then active Wand of speed (every shud have this) for the 25% speed boost (8+ speed) to get out fast.

If successfully timed, you end up springing massive damage - usually grabs a kill, and if they dont react fats enough 2-3, Ooze is more of a damage mitigation skill for this build, having them hit you 20-40% less often is pretty important.

EDIT: - Reasons for my choices - once you have the favor item, this build is suprisingly cheap, requiring 13k to "fully complete" - just the 3 best gloves, and boots of speed.

from the games ive played so far, it seems that gold is critical - almost as much as your level for an assassin. for this reason, i decided to make sure i always had the upperhand. - the build is cheap, which allows for more potions/lotions/teleports etc to be bought if needed.. it is also extremely high damage and veyr very agile, allowing me to deny them getting a kill on me, whilst being able to ensure i get as many kills as possible (again, its all about the gold) - this means that you can contribute to the Citadel, and start buying and DROPPING (for your team m8s) potions regularly

i go for the max dps via skillz build. I pretty much only put skills in spit, ooze, foul grasp and disease claws (only after lvl 10 though). For items, I get the 700+mana, 15+ damage one for the favor slot, i get the crown that decreases mana cost, heart of life/8%life steal, and either the 10k armour or the third most expensive one.

I usually start an attack with spit, turn on ooze if not alread on, run up to their face and foul grasp. And if they survive that, you should be able to do another spit within a second or two.

Very mana dependant and you want health regen items to offset the ooze.

I havent really looked at the artifact shop yet, so there probably are some useful items in there.

Depending on who you play you will want at least one point in Foul Grasp for the interrupts. Melee DGs need interrupts to survive against channel nukes.

This game is amazing, it's everything I've asked for. Would anyone be able to provide some strats for QoT or the TB? That would be greatly appreciated. I don't mean to hijack this UB thread btw

I forget the skill names, but I was placing top kills and dps last night with spit, 50% increased damage skill, and the lifedrain ability, mostly for it's 2sec stun effect. Get the 8k gold 12% lifedrain weapon by level 10, it's insanely powerful in DG duels. When you throw on 50% damage, your survivability goes way up with HP leech.

Tonight i'm going to try, spit, rage, and passive attack speed and run speed, as well as target run speed debuff, with only 1 level in 2 sec stun, to see if my demigod can kill runners effectively.

thats basically what i do..

50% more damage, attack, stun.. if they then manage to get too far spit again..

what i cant decide on is which Favor item to use.. early game "swift anklet" makes sure you get the kill.. but also Furious Blade has provided some "omg wow" moments where ive been able to just kill people so quickly it felt dirty

the way i play Beast is all about sick melee damage. the only activated skill i get before level 11 is Venom Spit, for obvious reasons. it helps alot to do it this way because Beast has low mana anyway so minimizing his activated abilities lets you avoid being helpless and out of mana all the time. better to beef up the regular claw attacks, in my opinion.

So i focus on Poison Claws, Beast Within as passives and go for items that boost melee attack damage and movement speed. its not a very complicated strategy. you just wait until a good time to ambush someone then run in, spit poison, and slash the crap out of them. almost nobody gets out alive.

after a few kills you'll have enough money to buy some good armor so you can fight a bit more directly.

at level 10 you get plague and start melting through creep waves extremely quickly. good time to push and go knock down some towers.

skill points at level 11 and onwards go mostly into the stun grab move, Deadly Grasp or whatever its called. makes your ganking go much easier as a nice interrupt and health drain to supplement your high damage with.

transitive good strat, but you get ooze AND venom spit right ?

plague isnt as good as ooze, its damage over 30 seconds, ooze is very powerful against creeps and you can pretty much mow down an entire creep wave without loosing any healh

I go maximize Spit and Beast Within, buy a single point in Poison Claws, and pour the rest into ooze and the general upgrade thing. Ooze is AWESOME when used good.. later on it is probably the best creep and tower killer skill in the game. Spit is there for making sure people don't run away, usually gets upgraded to max with the lowest priority.

The curren build I use is:

Max spit

Max Inner beast

Max Ooze

Max Foul grasp

Max plague

and 1 point in diseaded claws.

Basically the build is designed to burst you quick to force the person run while the DoT's and your speed keep them from getting away safely. You generally spit then run in ooze and try to foul grasp them in the spit's puddle so they take some of the extra damage followed by them being stuck in melee range with UB who not only runs faster then them, but they're slowed 5% making getting away impossible without outside help. The only problem is the build would be what is called a "carry" hero till late game. As until you get the mana under controls the build suffers from always being low on mana due to spit harrassment. Laster in the game though especially after buying mageslayer the build can burst you down before you even have time to start casting.

Screenshot is from the first time I tried it and also my first online game. The QoT kept saying my guy was cheap and kept getting angrier as I didn't know how to type in All chat just allies. >.< As he later rage quit after the erebus stunned him so I could get near her. The sedna was tough to kill and she had both of my deaths, one of which came extremely close. (she had like 400 hp left and almost die to the spit's dot after she killed me)

+1 for Ooze is awesome. Not only does it do 140 pbaoe dps, it reduces enemy attack speed by 40%. This is especially powerful in close games that last a long time (destroy citadel) when people run around with powerful artefacts and ridiculous regular dps.

no, i don't get ooze. it doesnt help push at all because its draining your health so fast. id hesistate to ever use it unless i had a Sedna on my team backing me up.

i honestly find that the damage is fine without ooze. the main thing you might want out of Ooze is the attack speed debuff, which is actually extremely good, but then i feel like you're stuck in a more supporting role because you cant take the kind of risks you can with my strategy. i'm really very focused on getting the kill. ooze doesn't add that much DPS and it usually does more damage to me than is saved from the attack speed debuff.

plague is better at handling creeps because it spreads. you start a plague in on part of the map and then the creeps run into others and infect everyone. you're basically weakening almost every creep on the map once a plague gets going. ooze just helps you kill the guys right next to you, which isn't the point. your corpse explosions do that as fast as necessary. the reason plague helps you push is because it gets all your own creep waves much closer to the goal even without you being there to help them.

Agreed although in my game they both focused on getting reinforcments first. So while they had catapaults and giants I was closing in on enough money for an all-fathers ring. (which I eventually got)

You lose less health to Ooze at max level than you do to five melee creeps. Now, considering Ooze drops the DPS of nearby foes by A LOT, i'd say it's a bargain!

I personally agree with transitive, i usually pick up the artifact to cleave 100% as well, combined with the chance to double crit dmg, DMG doesnt really seem to be a big problem when it comes to my UB.

I use max spit/bestial/grasp with postmordam.

Usually im on top of charts for kills, if i wasnt so bent on upgrading my base/getting flags im pretty sure i could be top of dmg easily as well.

heres the thing, you guys are too focused on demigod vs demigod damage, in which ooze is ok, because its DOT isnt that great against a demigod but its debuff is.

But lets say they have creeps, even 1 point in ooze is good, you can just walk past the creeps and ooze kills em at higher levels. When you are fighting a demigod and they are surrounded by creeps/minions ooze helps a ton

try getting 1 point in plague and atleast 1 point in ooze, you will notice a huge difference in how fast you gain xp, kill creeps and help your team!

its [plague] actually not weak for damage either. don't think about it in terms of DPS, which is very low on plague. think about it in terms of overall damage dealt. plague can affect 50 targets at a time (or more actually), the total damage it deals is far greater than just about anything else in the game. its very spread out so it won't put a big hole in spot like a concentrated AoE attack like Fire Nova will, but what it will do is basically make all of your opponent's creeps fight at half health or less so they'll be very easily wiped out by your own creep waves.

this means your creep waves will get to the towers with much more health and they'll get there automatically even if you aren't directly there helping push a lane. it just puts a huge amount of pressure on the enemy all over the map.

plague is all about map pressure. don't think about it in terms of the spot you're attacking. it hardly makes a difference in any one spot. its just that it adds up to huge damage if it spreads out enough.
