I finally got a chance to download and play Demigod this morning.
The good:
+ The balance is much better than the beta versions.
+ The generals are much better
+ Addictively fun
+ MP Skirmish feature is very nice
The bad:
- Call me spoiled but I was hoping for even more game start up options
- Connecting to other players is a pain if you just toss up a game right now
- No single player campaign
I saw Istari comment elsewhere but I think what he says deserves some elaboration. I see a lot of people bitching about connecting in Multiplayer.
I think people have short memories. When I bought Rise of Nations, their GameSpy thing worked like crap. It was useless. When I got Company of Heroes, I basically had to forget MP until their first patch because I couldn't join games. When World of Warcraft came out, you couldn't get onto the server for like a month if you played on weekends and that was a game I was paying $15 a month to play AFTER the $50 at retail. Some people need to chill.
Now if Demigod had a single player campaign, it would probably have bought GPG/Stardock more time to update their servers to better handle the load and connection stuff. The single player tournament is not bad but i wish it had more difficulty levels but I digress.
At the end of the day, Demigod is a great game. I think almost anyone who's played it will agree. Is the multiplayer connection issue a problem? It is. But does anyone really want to argue that it's due to bugs in Demigod or that Demigod is unfinished or something? That's ridiculous. Does anyone really think a week from now we'll be worrying about this? People, it's a game. Be adults and have some patience.
