If my college blocks Peer 2 Peer connections... how do I play? srsly.....

Hey there Stardock.... I play and love GPG's game... my brother and I preorder'd it when it preorders first opened shortly after PAX and we were able to play together through online means such as hamachi and the like.  Now that the online components are actually "working" we are trying to play... however, his college blocks peer 2 peer connections or its firewall is very unforgiving.... he can play games like WC3/DoTA without any issues.  So what is my brother supposed to do?  He can't return his preorder for the money he spent on it... I guess he could always play by himself.  The fact that college students are potentially unable to play due to circumstances that are out of their hands really limits your target audience... in my experience... college students are the ones most likely to play games of this nature.

 

But enough of me pointing out the obvious I suppose... the big question is... how does my brother play the game online with me?  If the answer is, well he doesn't.... srsly?  I don't have issues playing many many games with him... only games that use models similar to Demigod's approach... and that usually causes me to stop playing them.

I understand trying hamachi, however, there are limitations with hamachi... like the playerbase.  Hamachi will have a smaller base that will be more limited than the other online playerbase... and thus make finding games to play much more difficult.  But yes, this is a possible way to play the game

I'm in japan, which ISP here doesn't provide configurable modem/router for portforwarding. I've tried using hamachi method but it seems to connect to my friend's pc with P2P method. We can't connect to each other. Other games like Warcraft III, Starcraft and bla bla bla doesn't have any lag at all.

 

Seriously there's doesn't need to implement P2P connection, at least for LAN gaming. I would be happy if they give users to choice method of connection.

This is true, I did say that, and the answer given will allow me to do that in a very strict sense.  Therefore rephrasing it to be:

 

"I want to play against other players with my brother." would be more accurate.  Hamachi is an answer to this to an extent, but as stated previously... the player base is severely limited.

Drop out, or study harder. No time for computer games if you're going to study to be a future world leader!
