whenever i open impulse to check for updates now, i only get "Problem retrieving update data."
this started happening yesterday or the day before...
anyone else having this problem? any way to fix it?

I think contact Stardock Support's email address would be the best way to fix this problem. I haven't experienced it myself and I haven't read anything on the forums about it. Perhaps try validating your install for Demigod first? Just a thought.
