yeehaw! im a sysadmin but would rather make video games
You say that now...
Imagine working... no really working... like you've never worked before. A typical day in crunch...
- 10:00am Wake up.
- 10:30am Arrive at work, start working.
- 12:30pm Go to lunch.
- 1:30pm Back to work.
- 7:30pm Eat dinner (at work).
- 8:30pm Back to work.
- 1:30am Go home.
- 2:00am Go to bed. That's right, no playing games, no seeing your wife or kid, no reading a book, no watching tv. Bed.
That's 13 hour days, (sometimes more due to only taking 30 mins for lunch or dinner), 65 hour work weeks, usually closer to 70 due to a short work day on Sat and you're salary so no overtime.
- Repeat for 6 months -- game ships.
That can be the life of a developer, which is to say you don't get a life. Making the game is your life.
