First off, I really enjoy the game. Ran great prior to the patch, but after this patch (4/22...2 patches ago, I believe), the game "Stutters." What changed to cause this? I hadn't changed anything post-patch when I went to play again. The "stutter" is most evident when the game first begins and the camera goes from a zoomed out view, to a rotating close up of the player's character. As it zooms in, you can see the "micro lag" or "stutter" or whatever you'd like to call it. This is evident in both single player and multiplayer. It continues throughout the game, unfortunately. My friend claims he sees no stuttering on his PC when I play with him. Addendum: I had my friend look closer when he plays...he does indeed see the same stutter. It happens twice in the camera-zoom beginning of loading the map. He has[had] the same XFX 8800GTS 512MB card with 178.13 Nvidia drivers.
Points of note:
- Sim speed is 8-10 in singleplayer most of the time...I have not seen it go below 6 during singleplayer.
- Frames per second remains at 60fps (via FRAPS or the in-game perfomance monitor that the "/" gives you) even when it is stuttering. With vertical sync and things getting hectic it may have dropped down to 30fps(with 8800GTS).
- Audio is not affected.
- Using Low/Medium/High settings does not prevent the stutter.
- Resolution is 1920x1200.
- Reverb is off.
- It doesn't matter if it is the first play of the map or the 4th, any cached information doesn't seem to prevent it.
- It is playable. It's just annoying to see since I know it used to run stutter free and now it doesn't.
- Antivirus is disabled during play.
PC Specs:
- Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 at 3.6Ghz (yes "stable"...extensively tested)
- 4GBs G.Skill DDR2 Ram at 1128Mhz (in rated values, 3GBs usuable in 32-bit)
- DFI Lanparty X48-T2RS FSB at 450Mhz (yes "stable"...extensively tested)
- I upgraded the video card from an XFX 8800GTS 512MB to an EVGA GTX 285 SSC 1GB...both cards still stutter!
- Auzentech X-FI Prelude Sound Card
- Western Digital 74GB Raptor Hard Drive
- Nothing else I can think of that might be relevant.
What I've tried:
- Vertical sync on/off
- Vertical sync forced in Nvidia settings
- Updated to latest Nvidia drivers: 182.50
- Updated to latest Audio drivers from Auzentech
- Played with quality/performance settings in-game and in Nvidia control panel
So, looking for advice/help/to know what changed and if it'll be changed back in another patch.
Thanks in advance.
