Game crashes during skirmish online

Totally crashes windows out to a blank screen with sound going "du du du du du du"

Running pentium quad core, 8gb mem, 512mb 9600 nforce, Win Vista Ultimate 64bit os.

Only happens occasionally but completely crashed windows out and have to hard boot the machine.

Running on latest drivers for graphics card.

Any ideas what could be causing this? could it be the memory as when I had 4 gb in before it seemed more stable.
