Sound glitch, bad quality

Sound sometimes skips, halfway thru a quote or music. Also crackles often, i've tried all sound settings, low, medium and high. Also tried with and without sound reverb. Never had a problem with any game before like this.

intel Q6600 2.4GHz

3GB ram

Nvidia 8800 GT

Windows XP sp3

Plug is definately in properly! Drivers ARE updated!

I thought it was just me I have this happen quite often too... almost like there's too much going on for the sound card to handle.. XFI Extreme gamer edition with 64mb onboard Ram too.. so *shrug*
