Was discussing with some friends and this game has a sort of 3D upgraded style to "Gauntlet".
Storyline Mode Description:
I could easily see a plot and storyline to the game that could be created with an expansion pack. "Demigod - The God Life". In it you could explain how the Demigod's came to be and what their divine right to the land was. Allow you to choose the force of darkness or light and limit the skills sets based on those options or add additional skills. You could start off your campaign with 1 to 5 players and allow them to to go through a map similar to how Gauntlet used to work with minions attacking you and then bosses here and there. Make it so your campaign can be saved but you are able to invite human players to join you at anytime "Like Left4Dead", or add computer AI players to your team at the end of levels or entering new map country. With the level of quality graphics and how the Demigods are already setup with the RPG style of leveling up, there is not much change that is needed there. Just write the storyline and create some inline maps that you can beat/complete and then walk through a gate to get to the next map level. The maps can be similar to how they are now only with various obsticles and bosses to overcome along the path to the exit. Make it so once the newly created SuperGods are killed, you can obtain a special Favor item from them, weapon, etc. that you could take into a multiplayer game if allowed or just equip during your Story Mode gameplay.
As you go through the (newly created storyline maps), you level up and unlock special skills, amulets, potions, rings, various items, spells or weapons. As an expansion, these weapon skill sets could then be usable in an online multiplayer game against other members, even if they did not have the expansion pack. Company of Heroes has a setup like this where you can still play multiplayer against those who have the extra expansion packs, you just dont get the options they do. Still can maintain the balances, but offer additional options for an even greater robust options for strategy. This way if people with the expansions can enjoy the additional options they paid for and those without can still play against those that do have it and often once seeing the additional options in gameplay, they too will end up buying the expansion.
More on the Storyline: Right now there is no storyline for the game, just a brief web explination which isn't the greatest, no offense. Just Demigod's fighting Demigod's. The game is still awesome no matter what but it could be an amazing game with just a few added additions, not including the already needed bug fixes. In Storyline Mode you could choose a Rook for instance and it would start him off in the a Realm for the Rook. Each Demigod would have its own Realm to start in with unique graphic and building architectures. Giant Stone Castles and Rocky Mountains for the Rook for instance, or a Huge Bat Cave for Vampire Lord. Once they get along the path they can then enter the World Realm where all Realms meet together and a Giant Ancients Temple would be in the middle of the world. It would then be from here where you must conquer each of the other Demigod realms to become the Supreme Demigod, Ruler of the DemiWorld and prove yourself worthy.
REALM DESCRIPTIONS
1. Rook - Castles Realm: Giant Castle, Stone walkways, maps of vast castle like structures, archer towers, towers falling boulders, mini-rook soldiers to defend.
2. Unclean Beast - Plague Realm: Giant bone compiled structure with skulls throughout, pockets of rotten flesh, poison and plague, smaller bone structures defense towers, bone dogs, bone dinosaur like defenders, spitting mini-beasts to defend.
3. Torchbearer - Firey Darkness Realm: Giant Volcano with Volcanic like structures throughout, with patches lava in the walkways, mini-torchmen to defend.
4. Vampire Lord - Underworld Realm: Giant bat like cave, wet looking dark walkways, mini bat caves to destroy along the way, some attacking insects on the ground, mini-vampires and bats to defend.
5. Regulus - Tower of Sight Realm: Giant lookout tower, Wooden walkways with multiple wooden archer towers, cross bowmen, spearmen, mini-regulus to defend.
6. Sedna - Fountain of Life Realm: Giant Mystical Waterfall structure, minifalls and little stone/tree encased animal caves along the path, wild cats, tigers, lions attacking with mini-sedna panthers to defend.
7. Oak - Canyon Ridge Realm: Giant Canyon with a ancient looking Blue outlined metallic building feel, walkways with oultined ancients righting in metal with glowing bright pathways, large sheild like structures hold the forces that will defend this realm, small axemen, swordsmen, mace soldiers and mini-oaks to defend.
8. Queen of Thorns - Thorny Haven Realm: Giant Thorn like Dwelling with covered green walkways, attacking thorn bushes and vine like pathways to walk on, thorn traps when walking across them, attacking flowers, little tree like men with attacking limbs waving about, cloaked leave paths where you lose site of your Demigod briefly, mini-queen of thorns to defend.
The above are just some basic ideas we came up with. Obviously once you made it through each of the realms you would face the full size Demigod and have a 1v1 battle on a custom map for them. Once beaten you unlock that map and it is now available for multiplayer or skirmish games if you are hosting. Once all realms and Demigods have been defeated, you must make your way to climb the mountain to the Temple of Demiworld for one last battle against the God of Creation to prove yourself. Either stand your ground or defeat him to earn the right to the Temple of DemiWorld. If defeated, you would get one of like 15(quantity?) items to choose from: Special Shield, Helmet, Gloves, Boots, Ring, Amulet, Potions, Level 5 Minions for generals, lots of options. If you simply survive the Surpeme God of the Temple after a certain time frame or if it takes you more than one attempt, you simply get Favor points and a special Potion, and mediocore Amulet that is always available in your inventory to use in multiplayer or other games.
