What is the deal here...

So I went ahead and purchased Demigod the other day. The first day I got it I think it took about 30 minutes atleast to get a game going and people lagged out as soon as it loaded. I have spent more time trying to get games going then playing them. Are the urgently doing something to fix this, because it is just not morally correct almost stealing to release a multiplayer game that doesn't even work lol...I mean come on.

Ok I am trying to find out what the deal is. I tried skirmish and pantheon and they pretty much never work or someone dc's lags so I pretty much ruled those out. I tried joining ccustom games and most of the times they tart with a yellow ping not connected or w/e and it is big fail by lag/dc. So I decided to hgost my own games and I can do it very nicely. Although it doesn't seem like there are many people accessing the games through the game itself, I see like 6-10 games hosted average in custom.

SO whats up are people making games with other programs like game ranger etc? I just want to find out the best way to actually PLAY the game with other people. So if you know please tell, I really like the game and want to know the best way to play it with other people smooth.

Also if you are a decent player with a NIcE computer and good internet connection with no problems I want to get some private games going that run smooth. So if you would like to play demigod with me and others that can play the game smooth let me know. OR if you host private games or are in clan or group that plays solid smooth games I would love to partake in this with my very nice computer and connection.

proxy servers are going to be implemented next patch, which should be out tomorrow.

which means, you should be able to play without problems.

Yeah getting games going is kinda annoying atm. This is (mostly) due to idiots (sorry) not opening port 6073 + 6100-6200 (i know, 20 port range). You should do that. Then play custom games.

its not their fault, y should they have to configure things just to play the game? i know on my ps3, xbox, DS i dont have to do that.

By that argument people shouldn't have to know about anti virus, fire walls, disk defragging, printer drivers.

I spent half of tonight trying to get my Vista printer to connect to another Vista Printer on my home LAN without success.

And you are wrong if you think you never have to change your router. Try Halo wars on an older Dlink router sometime. I still can't get it to work.

PC are not xboxs or PS3s. And they should not be. PCs over a much better gaming experiance, but it is at the cost of complexity. See, every Xbox or PS3 is the same. Not every PC is. This can complicate things for the PC user. But as a PC games, most of us have a good understanding of how PCs work, and can follow simple instruction such as opening/forwarding port.

In fact MOST online games mention in the manul that forwarding port may be nessisary.

On the other side... Demigod definatly still needs alot of work.

i have a dlink router, which i had to configure for several games. the only time i had to configure it was when i wanted to host, not if i just wanted to play it.

it's always nice to hear from new people and how they love the game but have network issues. I hope to read more new post about their first experience of their game.

That you might need to open ports (and which) is clearly stated in the manual (not 6073 for some reason). Yes Demigod requires a bit more than 'monkey mash button to play!', but come on. It's not rocketsurgery. If you want to be able to play games online with your routers and firewalls etc you need to be able to configure them to let the traffic through. It requires no more than you would need to host any other game. If you can't wrap your mind around the concept of ports, buy an XBox and stopp clogging up my games with your closed ports and "lols connectawhat?" (targeted at noone in particular).

Granted there are a few problems beyond that. Some routers will not let you be connectable no matter what you do apparently. But mostly, the problem is the player not configuring his router.

i think you guys missed the point.

the PC part is fine for most users, its configuring the router that people shouldnt have to do.

The router is part of the PC package. Configuring your router is important and should be something everyone learns to do.

It's not that hard, either. And if you don't know how, just plug the internet straight into your computer. Oh, you need the router? Then you should learn to use it, same as anything else.

Problem is that many ppl are not the admin of their network and therefore cannot open ports nor ask for it.

This means that most of the connection issues are caused by this imho. I stated further down in another post that there are other problems.

They should really take that up with the admin of the network now shouldn't they and not blame GPG/Stardock for making a MP system that relies on ports (like any other MP game does. Atleast if you are hosting).

Just to be clear, my (idiots) comment was directed at people who are barely aware routers exist, and therefore have not configured it. Or the "I shouldnt have to!!!"-crowd.

\/\/ That your admins are unwilling is not GPG/Stardocks fault. My point is that ports are necessary for an online gaming service. \/\/

Yeah I'm sure if you're at a university behind a heavy firewall you can just email IT and say "I want to play a game that uses P2P networking... port forward to me now!" and they'll get right on that.

I can't think of much that is lower priority to a network admin than the performance of your video games.
