I think that would be a bad idea.  Not just bad, disastrous. 

Massively microing your skill tree (max points to nuke A, now all points to passive autoattack boosts, now all points to stun!) would be hell.

The massive "micro" required while your hero is standing still and doing nothing should act as a deterrent enough to changing skill points that often (and why would anyone change it so often anyway). It's not viable in battle anyway without hotkeys and templates.

Also there would surely be mods made where the press of a button would do everything needed for you and people could freely switch between different builds at the drop of a hat. A very bad idea this is.

I do not at all like this idea. It would quickly degenerate the game into rock/paper/scissors style gameplay.  If DG A has an ability that is strongly countered by DG B, if B has a specific skill.. B can ALWAYS have that specific skill, even if they did not build for it.

Furthermore, the opportunity costs of abilities that are strong in the early game, but weak in the late game gets whiped away. Regulus easily gets snipe until level 6, and then switches to mines at level 7.

Since no commitment is made, the difference between an early game and late game build would blur greatly, and people would more and more gravitate towards the same way of playing.

I would think maybe the idea of a few reset points that either reset a skill path or the whole skill panel may be a good idea for another game setting. Personally there are instances where in bigger games I realise I need to switch build but some skills are already set in stone. I thought it may be an interesting different game set that maybe fun to play if such option is available.

I think micromanagement would be the biggest problem, but I also think this problem could be avoided by, say, only allowing you to change your skills at your item shop or citadel.

But even without the micromanagement, I think that Zechnophobe's points are valid enough that this is not a good idea.

Hell, Book of *something* (forgot what )? Nobody play wc3? It's a consumable item you can buy from a shop that unlearns all your current kills and gives you the skill points back so you can reassign them. It costs GOLD (ofc!), the price will be determined by balance. Off the top I'd say 2000 gold would be a good price for it.

It would add a lot of depth to the gameplay imo. You can either buy some item or spend it on a citadel upgrade or switch your build to counter what ever threath you are on (e.g. enemy demigods owning you, creeps overwhelming = need aoe, want to destroy towers etc. etc.).

Do I hear a noob cry "unfair!!11! he could counter my build after seeing it". Well, you can buy the Book as well and counter his build. This would promote better knowledge of builds and what counters what. Raising the skill ceiling and the top players would even more easily stand out.
