Which ports to forward?

Hello!

Yes, I know this has been discussed in several posts already, but I still don't understand (maybe I just haven't found a really good post yet). So please, somone who knows how this works help me! I have problems connecting directly to people (I get proxied quite alot, but not always), but once I am in the game I don't get kicked out or have any other connecting related problems (exept for lag).

My question is: Which ports on my router shall I forward to my (static) IP-adress? I have heard that it should be: 6000-6200 or 6073 and 6100-6200 or only 6100-6200.

And: Is it UDP-traffic or TCP-traffic or both?

I have tried to forward ports 6000-6200 for UDP-traffic, but it doesn't seem to help.

Thanks for the answer Monk! Your guide was helpfull and I have now disable UPnP (which I didn't know I should before reading it).

I have some questions though. I have a software firewall and a router firewall (and Windows Firewall, I think...). Shall I turn off the router's firewall when I play Demigod? (My english is not perfect, but that is how I understand what you write in n. 6 under "Configure your router".) The reason why I'm not sure, is that I don't know what a SPI firewall is. Is a router's firewall always a SPI firewall? In the instructions to my routers firewall it says that the ports i forward will not be blocked by the firewall. Do I really need to turn the firewall of then?

Sounds like your router's firewall may not be a SPI-specific firewall, however it could interfere with certain out-going operations even if it's not blocking anything on incoming ports which are properly "forwarded" through the router. Does your router have something called "gaming mode" under a MISC or TOOLS section?

So, to answer your question.....no you shouldn't need to turn (what seems to be) a non-SPI specific router firewall off, however you might test things with it temporarily turned off. If you're still experiencing difficulties with it off, then I would suggest that the issue is "above" your router (ie. at your cable/dsl modem etc.).

Post back with your results for more help....

My router does not have anthying called gaming mode or anything similar.

I have now tried to disable the router firewall and my software firewall (but not at the same time...). And I can actually say that I see no clear difference between when I have my ports forwarded (and UPnP off) and one of my firewalls turned off, and when I have no ports forwarded (and UPnP on) and all firewalls on. In both situations I almost always get (NAT) or (Proxied) with the host and one or two more players. It is only 1 of about 30 games that I could connect to the host quick and without NAT and proxies and get in to the lobby quick. For some reason that I don't understand I almost always have trouble to connect to the host, but not some of the other players.

So does that mean the the problem is my modem or my ISP? Or can it be something else?
