Are there any plans to offer a ladder aside from Pantheon? I'm mostly a Starcraft player and am thinking specifically of the way Iccup functions. Each player has a rank that is displayed next to his/her name, games are generally created based on rank, i.e. "1v1 (map name) D+, C-, C" with the letters being the rank.
I'm not sure how others feel, but I'm not very interested in Pantheon and want to play Demigod in a more competitive way than "custom game" allows for. In a custom game there is no way of knowing how good someone is short of going to the impulse website and looking at the record. Not being able to see the rank isn't really the main problem though; it's that games aren't being created based on skill level. The result is a bunch of people of varying skill levels on each team. I don't really have the motivation to try to improve at this game when many games can be lost or won based on how bad the worst player of either team is. Many games that I've won, I have felt I won not because I did well, but simply because someone on the opposing team just started playing a day ago and fed us a lot of experience.
I think a ladder with ranks displayed and games created based on these ranks would help alleviate this and give Demigod a better chance at becoming a competiive rather than just a casual game.
As for why I'm not interested in the Pantheon: I clicked it hoping for a ladder that I described, only to see that it is arbitrarily divided as light vs. dark in a large "tournament" that doesn't really have any bearing on anything (does anyone really care if 'dark' wins?) In addition it seems that it just automatically matches you up and puts you in a game. I'm not trying to be super critical of Pantheon, I'm sure it appeals to a lot of people, but for me and hopefully others I would really enjoy a more straightforward ladder system that would allow me to play people around my skill level and improve by doing so.
