I join any game with US in the title.  It's just signifying where they're hosting from, not saying who can join.

Anyone joining any game hosted in the US will have good ping.

a lot of people don't join games without a location, including myself. The random "4v4" games turn into 5 min lagfest games no thx

I usually don't join without a location, and always put "US" in games I host. The location just indicates where it's hosted from, not who can join. If their ping is under 200, I let them stay. It simply cuts down on the trial and errors you have to go through while picking a custom game. I hate joining a "4v4" then realize they're hosting from Europe and I have a 250 ping, have to exit out, better luck next time.

I am US West but I join East games (and sometimes CA games too), but usually not EU games.
