Gadgets

I'ma tell you what my new favorite toy is...the universal gadget! =D

Now I've really started to like this item and I'll tell you just why.

1. Deals 650 damage to enemy.

2. Heals yourself for 2000

3. Heals your towers for 2000

4. Heals teamates for 2000

I'll start with 1...this is one of my favorite features, because whenever I'm beatin down the enemy and he starts to skidattle, maybe I can't keep up with him or he's getting really close to a buncha towers, you can seriously surprise his ass with a gadget kill.

Now for healing yourself you could either buy a whoooole different item to heal your self or you can just keep your gadget handy for a convinient heal...and the reason it's so convient is that you can use it for so many different purposes and is soooo much better than a regular old health potion...sure it heals 1000 less but heck, you can heal allies with it which can earn you a couple of great big thanks's

Now 500 gold isn't that expensive and I'll tell you what...from my experience using them so far, it is way worth it. I have saved myself with one, I have saved teamates with one, and I have scored a few kills with a few, not to mention you can keep your towers from being obliterated if need be.

My suggestion would to invest in a few throughout the game.

I like it in the first 5 levels of a match, but after that its use becomes much more limited. I'll occasionally use it to heal towers later on in a match.

Ya, I forgot to mention I generally only use it in the early stages it soon gets replaced by either teles, cap locks, sigils, or a handy wand of speed

Agreed.  Really great item at early levels.  If you haven't tried it out yet, give it a shot.  It gives a nice extra boost for that 1st kill OR can heal u if you need it early.

In the first 5 levels, 500g is a lot of gold to get a kill, pretty much negates the bonus gold you get.

Although maybe nice if you see a 1400hp reg or anyone else without blood of the fallen + banded armor.

Well, the lads and i have been tinkering with the idea to all get one, since with 3 your can pritty much one shot each class at the start. It might leave a bit of hp but nothing a bit of spit/snipe/fb wont fix.

In special on cata thats an instant 3 vs 2 and you get a bit of the gold invested back. Pritty much guaranteeing all 3 flags for atleast 30-40 secs.

Still have to test it though

It is a nice item, only downside is the cast time, being a jack of all trades its surpased by specialized counterparts.

If you kill a guy at lvl.1 you will get 900 gold and 400 for assist.

Gadget cost 500g

Player will be out of the map for 15 seconds

You don't use it. I will.

kill at level 1 is 600 and 300 for assist, not sure where you got 900.  Formula is 500 + 100*level, half for assists.

I find the Gadget is most useful for builds that have no real snares or finishing effects. It is a good item, but I have never quite managed to elevate it to great item.

Just had an awesome gadget kill in mid-to-late game against an level ~12 UB. Roll-Slam-Black Betty-Bamm, he retreats, get's spit on a little and then just before he reaches the health crystal my Gadget cast finishes and he's dead. Hrhr. (We were taking the left portal on Citadel at the time.)

I really recommend giving gadgets a try.  Remember, even though that level 1 first blood doesn't get you a huge amount of money, it removes a player temporarily, you probably get flag control, and they don't get any money while they are dead.  Plus, now the other team is most likely a little intimidated.  I say its totally worth it.

Because I guessed but 600 from a kill and 300 from assist is still good, gold-wise, imho. Course you wont aim to assist with Gadget on lvl.1

I take it back.

I tried a game starting with banded armor + a gadget, and it is actually works very well for a slam rook.

You need to time it just right, but you can go ??? -> slam -> gadget for easy kills.

As a rook, using no move speed items (maybe a wand of speed later on), it is important to time your slams so you get the kill with them, as you won't be doing much chasing. I usually open with a slam (no boulder roll) to test their interrupts, then when their hit points are at the magic number, roll - > slam -> gadget.

It doesnt really stop being useful either, level 10 rook does 1700 slam, 300 roll, add on a 650 gadget and thats a solid 2650 dmg nuke that you cannot run away from, perfect for getting kills on hp stackers after you melee/slam their hp down a bit, and totally wastes low hp targets.

Maybe not so useful for any other demigod which already has a useful chase/kill mechanism (snipe/spit/swarm etc).

Nice strat you got with the Rook, nice

About the quoted part. Thats why ppl say Gadget is best for early game (when we are talking about killing), because it allows you to get a kill when you can't chase into towers, you hit til you get the magic number and if the enemy is going behind towers you activate from safe or mid-safe position, so you can get a kill and not have to run back to crystal or even dying on the process.

I go back and forth on this. I used to go Banded Armor + Gadget as my starting equipment. I've since found out that getting Scale Mail (as a UB player) gives me a lot more staying power. The first kill is great and all, but, honestly, I get far too many drops from it (CHEATER!) Which means I have to find another game, etc...

I often pick up a gadget when I get back to base the first time.  After your first encounter, you generally have a good idea of who (if anyone) is a good target for it.  If I see a low HP build, that extra 600 damage goes a long way.  Or, if I need more staying power in a lane, that's 2000 health for me.  Anyway, seriously, give it a shot if you haven't tried it yet.  Even if its in place of large potions (3000 heal w 3 sec cast V gadget 2000 heal w 2 sec cast). 

Also... on fortress games, healing a fort for 2000 hp can go a long way early-mid game

I am a full supporter of early game gadgets for the surprise kill. (levels 1-3). It's not about the gold, it's about the lane control you get by a kill.

Synopisis: Gadget works sorta like TB's fireball... if you are in range, casting begins... it will be a hit no matter how far the enemy runs after that.

What usually happens is my enemy realizes he is in a losing battle and runs to the safety of his towers. I will pursue and damage, If he gets below 650, he is dead. I will cast just out of range of his towers and pop!

Gadgets should also be used to heal on lone frontal towers in the lane if they are going to go down. People don't realize just how important these towers are to the overall outcome of the game.

The funny aspect. Gadget looks like a teleport animation. In a close heavy damage exchange, several times my opponent has been running away only to turn around to attack me because he/she thinks I am teleporting away. Pop!

Gadgets are a necessity on fortress games.

500g is a lot of money.

Assuming you get the chance to kill someone, and assuming you wouldn't have killed them without the gadget, you still only just make up for the investment.

Now a kill is more than just money, but if you were able to push the opponent to within kill range, chances are he is not holding the lane either.

I would rather buy scalemail or banded armour which allow me to win the fight just as easily, except they will likely last me a good portion of the game. The only thing it lacks is the surprise factor, but I don't need to kill my opponent if they can't leave their base.

With Scalemail or Banded Armor, you will not necessarely kill him, since he can easily retreat. With the Gadget you can kill him while he is retreating.

Generally I like saving up for bigger items sooner, but an early gadget in the right situation can be amazing

Imo its a well balanced, useful item. Its cost make it an interesting investment and can pay off for you.

My team used like 20 of these to heal the citadel in a losing battle on zikurat. The enemies kept holding the side portals better than us. We were able to hold back a good bit of the giants and stuff but enough were getting through to do major damage. We upgraded the cit hp to the max then started healin it with gadgets. We almost made some come backs with the extra time that bought us. We did eventually lose though.

Gadgets are also great for getting the enemy to overpursue a dg (thinking they'll get a kill) and then having a non sedna cast the gadget for 2000 health points.  I find I'm picking these up in most games any more.

Yeah I only learned that this could repair buildings yesterday, which I thought was really cool. The cost of it in terms of repairs seems just right.

I keep wanting to try it as a finisher but I always get greedy and think I can get the kill without it. If you start casting it on someone who keeps running way out of it's range, does it complete the cast or abort?

So long as you initiate the cast and aren't interrupted, it will hit outside of its default range.
