Official, integrated chatroom

I love the game, and the developers, but one thing worries me. There's no realtime community. I join a game, play with some people, and never speak with them again after the game. That's not right, especially because this game is multiplayer oriented.

I played supreme commander for a long time, and part of what kept me playing was the integrated chatroom. I really miss that in DG. Do not mistake this post for a "bring GPGnet back" post.

One way to do with would be to enter the chatroom as soon as you sign in to the multiplayer part of Demigod. And from there you can play whatever mode you want. Or arrange a team to play with.

I know we have some far away IRC channel, but it's not really integrated into the game.

Well, it IS available from in the game. Hit SHIFT+TAB and hit chat or whatever the top option is. That brings up the IRC channel. I'm thinking it's not the dedicated chatroom you wish for, but it is something.

but thats very circuitous !

 

players like "Battlenets" and "GPGnets" because that is something like a "headquater".

there, u can join games, host games, watch stats, download replays, or chat with other guys.

 

but the DG-system splitts these things in several instances.

to watch stats, u have to alt-tab and open the homepage,

to use a chat, u have  to alt tab and use IRC Channel....

thats not the right way, todays players like 1 instance where u can do and see everything u want !

I completely agree, it's not all combined in a simple view in-game. But the chat IS there. Not as integrated as I'm sure everyone would be happy to see, but you can go to the chat from inside the game without alt-tabbing. It's something, and at the moment I'm thankful for every something GPG/Stardock has graced us with. I pray (as do we all) that more is delivered in 1.2 and beyond.

 

They DO claim that stats will be see-able in-game when people join lobbies. That should help with a few nagging issues a lot of people are having. I personally hate alt-tabbing constantly and booting people to check stats and try to get a balanced, competitive game going.

More like GPG doesn't see any money in adding any UI, so they don't care.
Adding proper community support will extend the replayability and overall customer satisfaction. They wouldn't leave this out on purpose, even after considering the costs.

If they don't have the resources to implement this then that's a pity, but they might lose (otherwise longterm) customers. (No that's not a threat )

i'm sure they took one lookat the impulse IRC chat room and were like: "yep, that all we need".  i don't think they saw the need for seperate rooms and organized friends chats and whispers.  they were wrong of course causr liek many people above me have said... its a very key feature for long term gameplay.

I can't join the irc of demigod ingame. It always fails, and is only accessible without demigod open and only literally through impulse.

I am not the only one either, many people have told me of a similar happenings.

So, an official integrated chatroom, even if only an automatic entry into the irc text wall on the side of the multiplayer screen?

Imho the IRC chat is sufficient. They should just fix the problem where you can't join the channel from within Demigod.
