Who changed the map's name???

Seriously (not)

I'm very confused. Not concerned, but confused to the point of making a thread about it. The official spelling of the map is

Zikurat

 

Notice the presence of the letter 'k' and absence of any number of occurences of the letter 'g' in that spelling. So why do I see across the forum and within the game the map referred to as

Ziggurat?

 

How does that happen so uniformly? Theories, anyone? Is it innately easier for the human mind to recall that string of letters with two g's instead of a k? It boggles my mind how much I see this particular spelling.

I believe a Ziggurat is a building within the Warcraft 3 game, specifically for the Undead Race. Just felt that was relevant.

Because Demigod is the first time I've ever seen it spelled that way (they're the same thing). Probably for most people as well, and they just remember it as Ziggurat (which as stated above was used in Warcraft 3, among other places) better.

Tehre is antoher probelm. See what i did there? I am certain that you have read the sentence correctly even though every word except "is" is spelled incorrectly. People mostly read the first and last letters of the word and just fill in the gaps judging by the lenght of the word and the context.

If most people are used to spell it as Ziggurat they won't even notice that there is a K in there somewhere (as did i before i've actually read the name of the map). It's psychologycal......and maybe, as ZehDon put it, because of a structure in warcraft 3 (was the building that increased the population cap and expanded that dead soil, right? Haven't played in some time so i forgot).

Most people spell it with gg because that's the correct way of spelling the word (which is much, much older than Warcraft...). The alteration in the game's use of the word is (AFAIK) to make it more "exotic" and so that it would be transliterated rather than translated for the localizations.
