Jafo that isn't at all clear anymore. There are boutique manufacturers that can pretty much build a desktop equivalent in a laptop form factor. With pretty much all the bells and whistles of a desktop as well. To wit:
- Core I7 Extreme 975 3.33 GHz processor
- 12 GB RAM
- 17" 1920x1200 display
- GeForce GTX 280M 1GB video
- 802.11n networking
- Raid 0 or 1 with up to 3 320 GB HD and/or 256GB SSD in any combination
- 8x DVD RW
- Vista 64 bit (or Windows 7 when it comes out)
I think most anyone would be pretty happy with that. It isn't cheap, but if you have to carry your gaming rig in a small bag with you to frag at 30,000 feet, it can be done. (Above system would set you back a bit over 5 grand and includes a custom painted laptop case in any color you want. See the Falcon Northwest web site for more details.)
I will agree however that desktop still rules the roost when it comes to price/performance by a country mile!
