Sound crackling, clicking, stuttering on Windows 7

I just switched xp for w7 and got the old sound crackling back.

I had that sound problem on xp for a while, too, but I got it halfway fixed so that the sound only stutters in the demigod selection screen (where you can pick the DG you want to play).

But now that I got W7 installed, the sound bug is back in all it's glory. I checked it with creative audigy 2 and the onboard realtek sound - both the same (and no: I don't have both active at the same time).

I get less crackling when setting sound to low and reverb to off ... but occasionally i get that noise again.

Is there any solution short of buying a new sound card?

Hi.

I had the same issue with Vista and then 7. The only way I could fix it for good was to use the onboard sound on my motherboard instead of my Creative Xfi, which I had to pull out to play DG.

I tried updating drivers, reinstalling the card and DG without success...

So that means I don't need a new sound card and it's all GPGs fault?

And even if that fixes the crackling sound: It should work with any amount of speakers. Others manage just fine.

It should, yes. But the reality might be different . Try setting it to stereo. I don't think this will help in this case, but who knows.

I have been having the same problem after upgrading to Win 7 64bit from XP. The sound crackled and would cut out for 1 sec every few minutes. In addition, the games got more laggy as they progressed, even with video and audio set to lowest levels, even on single player.

Audio set to stereo output using onboard sound, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon 4800 HD, AMD 5600 processor. I have all the latest drivers installed. The problem seems worse when I have my Logitech G35 headset on, but it may be that the sound being closer to my ears makes it more noticeable.

However, since the latest Demigod update a few days ago, I have not had any issues. I still have audio and video set to the lowest levels because I don't want to mess up what's working for me. Has the audio problem been addressed in the update or do I have a false sense of security?
