IDK if anyone has used this reg build. I certainly haven't seen it in any games yet. In effect, you end up build an AA reg, but you start by getting mines and 1-2 levels of snipe, then proceed to dump all your points in stats, wings, scope, and maim. I've been using not because I find it partcularly strong (yet), but because it seems to keep the team bitching about no early snipes to a minimum.
The build order goes something like this:
1) snipe 1
2) mines 1
3) scope 1 or snipe 2
4) mines 2
5) maim1 (or snipe 2 if you have snipe 1 and think you need more snipe punch)
6) stats 1
7) mines 3
8) any of maim, scope, or EA upgrades
9) any of maim, scope or EA upgrades
10) shrapnel mines
11-15) wings (mix in 1 or 2 EA depending on if you need more armor)
15-20) max wings, put all the rest in EA
I typically take the anklet as my favor item, especially against DA.
I don't bother with mark usually, though it's possible to forgo EA points for it if you want - I think EA tends to help you more because you already should have 2 methods of slowing.
Items really vary. I'll often skip mana items, and cast only when it's clear it will help an ally and/or get a kill. I start with armor, and depending on the enemy I'll either start stacking health regen or armor. Getting nature's reckoning is key to AA reg builds, imo, and this is no exception, especially because of the lack of AoE for a long time.
Typical items would be something like below, a pretty typical AA reg build (starting with the '*' items):
- Scailmail (*) -> Dualist Curiass or mana item -> uber armor like Bulwark (good luck getting it)
- Banded Armor -> Narmoth's Ring
- Guantlets of Brutality or mana item (*) -> Mage slayer
- Natures Reckoning (get asap) -> Ash (again, good luck)
- Slayer's Wraps
This one plays how it looks: Starts as a mine reg, with limited snipe power, and transitions into an AA reg for late-game. If the game actually does go all the way to lvl 20, you'll (finally) be as strong as any aa reg, though the points in snipe are useless at that point except to slow a faraway dg.
I'm still not sure if I find the build particularly strong, espcially if you're really getting singled out for harassment (likely to the case if the other team is any good). Keeping a health potion on hand until you get lifesteal items is still advisable. Mines help, and can offer good support, so your team won't bitch at you for not having mines and snipe as if you were just doing a full aa build.
I recommend early maim if you can - get it instead of snipe 1. I've been finding that even just maim 1 can make a noticeable difference when you're supporting a teammate.
