No. the Akira is not a carrier. Least that is not its intended role in the mod. Despite the fact that it does carry a few squads. The Galaxy fills the role of Carrier better because for one it is the largest ship the federation has. Therefore has the hangar space to carry wings of strike craft. The Fed ships are pretty much "multirole" Jack of all trades type ships. While the Klingons have more specific ships that pack a punch, but are weak, and cheap attrition units. Romulans of course are supposed to be masters of stealth. I just wish we could make the AI use this stealth. Dominion are supposed to be almost equal to the feds in tech, and can do some things that the feds cannot (like jem hadar being able to punch right through shields in some instances, and breen being able to disable ships). The Borg we ALL know what they can do, and that is Assimilate. Then Annihilate You if you let them.
We intend to do a rough guide to what each faction is capable of doing, and what roles the specific ships we intend for them to play. We did put the ships role types in the info cards to give you a rough idea. Though some ships will not fight like the role it was placed in. For example the Steamrunner is in the light carrier slot. However it is not a carrier, and carry's no strike craft at all. We used the roletype, and statcounttype so that the AI will build the ships. Another example is the Defiant. It most certainly is NOT a capital ship. It is however an "Elite" unit. A "Hero" unit. So we placed it where the "Elite Hero" units should go. Which is why we said that Elite Units may, or may not be "true" capital ships in the readme. The Sins AI must see at least one of each vanilla sins roletype in a faction, or else it will build, and expand ether way too slowly, or not build anything at all! This is why we did things the way we did. So that the AI will work right. We cant mod the AI. It is hard coded.
Nobody is certain of what the Akiras true "canon" purpose was. Same could be said for many of the Federation lineup. Some say it is a heavy strike cruiser. Others say it is a carrier (way too small IMO to fit a wing of peregrines). Some say its an explorer like most fed ships. There is nothing "official" that i saw on its purpose. We made it an anti module ship (that can also fight ship to ship).
The Dominion still use vanilla strike craft because we havent gotten to making models for the Dominion strike craft yet. We are too few, and can only do so much with what little free time we have.
Tell me... How many canon Romulan ships have you saw in the entire run of Star Trek? I count FIVE. (The Original BoP, The Romulan D-7 Stormbird, D'Deridex, Valdore, and the Scout/Science vessel) Six if you count the Narada. Seven if you count the ENT BoP. Most of the Non-Canon Romulans DID come from Starfleet Command mods. We use the FASA Romulans, and some Klingons to fill in the gaps. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We went with designs that made more sense functionality wise. Rather than the "coolness" factor. The Romulans didnt use just DDeridex's, and Valdores. We went with "Older" designs to show that the Romulans had a real shortage of ships. So they re-activated old mothballed ships to help re-enforce their fleet. 100+ year old hulls with state of the art weaponry. The only ship i am re-considering is the Black Wind. There was never a canon "Alliance" between the Klingons, and Romulans. Though it is canon that they did exchange some technology.
We are working on the Fleet Logistics issue. I dont like the current state of it myself. I agree the cost is too high for some ships. Some ships do need a high cost to keep from being spammed to death (Defiants, Borg Cubes, Galaxy's), but cannon fodder (Mirandas, Galors, Ktingas) shouldnt take up too much in logistics.
No ETA on update. Much to do.. Not much free time to do it.
