Rebellion: Replacing TEC ship models?

I got Sins Rebellion on preorder and i love the game.

I fell in love with the advent ships with there slick streamlined designes and cool looking ships.

The Vasari Ships are mostly ferocious and dangerous looking with different cool designs.

And then the TEC...

Many of the ships (atleast some of those most usefull) look just plain out ugly and strange.

The Kodiak Heavy Cruiser being a prime example looking like somone putting a tank turret on a pimped out cargo container.

The Hoshiko Robotics Cruiser though also looking kinda strange is more original looking and is also a less"common" ship.

The Javelis LRM Frigate looks kinda akward but is not "too" unthinkable of a design.

The Sova Carrier on the other hand looks like someone just took modern aircraft carrier and made it into a spaceship.


I have nothing against "ugly" ships but atleast make something that makes sense and is orignial dont just spaceify stuff.

I understand that some of the Tec navy ships are supposed to be converted traders but the only ship that looks like it is is the corsev and i actually like that ship design as it looks logical enough for a large trade ship.

I have been looking around on the forums and there are many modders creating beautiful ship models that are 10 times better then anything the TEC currently have.

Would it be possible for somone to make some replacement shipmodels for the tec making the ships more believable and original looking.

As i am new to the Sins series i have not yet learned to do things myself but even if i did im not talanted at texture (model) work and thus think i would not be able to make anything of quality.

Actually, the designs fit in very well with the lore of the TEC, which states that the bulk of their fleet is actually just merchant ships hastily converted into combat units. The manual even states that the Dunov Class Capital ship was actually a large cargo transport b4 the war. So they don't look as combat equipped as the other factions because the fleet is just upgraded cargo ships for the most part, with certain exceptions such as the Sova Carrier and Kol battleship.

I think there are enough people who love any given set of models that it is fine...

You have people who love TEC ships but hate Vasari and/or Advent...it's just a taste thing, and I think it's more noticeable when you only have 3 factions to pick from...

If it really bothers you, use a mod....I can't exactly point you to one that only replaces the TEC models and does nothing else, but with some work it could be done...

You wouldn't necessarily have to make the meshes and textures yourself (you could pull them from someone else's mod), but without any modding experience, it can seem a little overwhelming at first and there are a lot of small caveats that might trip you up while dealing with meshes...

It really comes down to how much work you are willing to put in to making the mod and making/finding meshes and textures....

I do agree the TEC can be ugly at times but for the most part they aren't too horribly out of line considering they are retrofitted trade vessels. However, while in general I do like the Sova carrier... It's just too similar to modern carriers(why do we have a massive deck? Put some turrets on that thing!)... Hoshinkos are a bit mullinium falconish but I like it overall. They only one I outright hate is the design of the new surfboard capital ship, I keep wondering who kept pushing for a flatter Blanderer design, I keep thinking it was similar to the SNL "Cowbell" sketch...

 

Anyway, I think the TEC are supposed to look like they want function over form more than the advent or Vasari and, for the most part, they really do come off as being retrofitted functional spacebricks and it gives them a unique touch IMO(sorta like "Firefly" was...miss that show...)

the only ship i have a real problem with would be the Kodiak the design just seems kinda stupid even if its not made for combat the basic ship design makes no sense.

Only thing that would use a design like that would be if it was made to land on planets (thus the flat bottom) but as it states that it was made as a ship to clear safe passage through dense, metal-rich asteroid fields that dosent seem to be the case.

Most other ships either look ok or can be avoided as being non "vital" but the Kodiak is the only real "Direct combat" cruiser as all the others have indirect battle capabilities and thus is usefull in most tec fleets (im new in Soase so i could be mistaken.

Yes the new TEC cap ship is infuriatingly ugly and a huge disappointment to this TEC only player.

Then again, I would hate to be an Advent player and have to make sense of their carrier frigate.

You know what makes NO sense, the TEC PT BOAT ripoff anti fighter ship, why doesn't it have cannons on the bottom?

There are a few replacements I know of, but I probably have the exact opposite taste as you.  The TEC look good to me, the Advent look like goofy cartoons and the Vasari look like they're trying too hard to be menacing.

No models will likely ever get replaced officially, but for the record I wish both the Kodiak and the Corsev looked more like ships.

Well for one, an armored van took me to my current place and residence...additionally, my last place of residence was a cardboard box...
