Windows 8 a problem, what else.

I installed win8 on my three computers and have not had more than the typical problems expressed by others. Well my Husband wanted me to install it on his computer … but this time there was a problem. I cannot get to the internet from anywhere besides the win8 start menu, not acceptable to hubbie. Everything checks out fine, drivers, network adapters, network checks and troubleshooting guides etc. I am at a loss as to where to go or what else to check. I have Start8 on all 4 computers. Please help…

Only screwed as far as you think you are … could just call it an experience to remember, you know the kind? There could be more comments posted which may or may not answer this for you, or maybe some way to get the ISO file after the fact, for a price no doubt. You have made your point but a video would be better than hearing it again, sorry. Are you sure you don't have the original download because it was there at one time. I pretty well dump most of everything like temp files, internet downloads and as much litter as I can daily so I know those files no longer exist here ... but if you are less stringent with your security ... worth a look.

Kona, if you're having different results, it's because you chose different options.

That does not mean the info we others posted is incorrect.

Users who have selected Install now option and didn’t create an ISO file or DVD/USB may be wondering how to download the Windows 8 ISO file from Microsoft. The good news is that if you own a genuine license of Windows 8, you can easily download your Windows 8 ISO file from Microsoft.

I don't get that screen during download or even after download. I go into my email, grab the link MS sent me, download the installer, run it and the screenshots I posted is what happens. I do not ever get that screen to burn an ISO. Others are having the same issue after looking around the net.

See my above reply. If you're running the setup, you've passed the option to save the iso to your PC. It is offered during download.

Dude you guys just don't it. The hell with Windows 8. I bought it, and clicked on the link in my email. All that does is download the installer program. I don't get ANY options with the download, all it does is download the installer program you see here:

Note that you can only use this method if you are running a version of Windows that you can upgrade to Windows 8 (basically Windows XP SP3 to Windows Release Preview, but not Windows 8 final).

The only difference I see in your ss's and what I linked to before is you have Windows 8 Setup on the titlebar, and the ss's in the link have Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant on it.

That's what I have been reading. Many people are having the same issue I am having when upgrading from XP.

Well, upgrading from XP it basically does a full wipe on all drivers and OS data so it's not going to cause as many problems as it can from other OSes. I wouldn't worry about the difference between upgrade and full install at that point.

Heh - just trying the method from the ghacks.net article and after entering the generic key (which is accepted) I get keep getting this:

We can't connect right now

Check your Internet connection and try again.

Suspect they're suffering the equivalent of a Denial of Service attack just now.

If you can indeed use the DVD you create on any computer as long as you have a valid license key, seems best to start on a machine with Vista or Win7 (so you can indeed save the ISO if XP won't/can't).

(Gonna need to figure this out pretty soon)

That is correct Daiwa. There have been instances where the 'upgrade media' (not being true upgrade-only media) has worked for a clean install, but I wouldn't bank on it. It is my understanding that if the download is actually truly upgrade-media then a clean install (not upgrade) will not work!

I'm sorry I can't really help out much in this discussion as I mostly deal with volume licenses etc. and those are a completely different animal. I do suspect that some people having downloaded the 'upgrade assistant' might have caused the 'media' option to not display. Either way, if it in fact is upgrade-only media the clean install won't work (as discussed above) anyway.
