Frankly, I don't see why the business model for JU is any different than that of Wincustomize. You allow membership there, and while it doesn't offset the cost it must be worth it enough to keep doing it. Why not give us the ability to be paying members here like we are there? |
It's *much* different. WC supports our products, so the site is basically "paid" for by purchase of the products it provides content for. The subscriptions to WC are far from enough to support the site, and that is why a lot of features are limited to subscribers/product purchasers.
JoeUser has no business model. We have done the math many time- if you take a typical conversion rate from users to subscribers, taking in to account that nobody would pay much to blog, the site wouldn't even generate enough money to justify the work that it would take to implement a payment system.
And then there is this- what would you get if you had a paid subscription that you wouldn't be getting for free? Either we would have to take away features for those who didn't pay, or code in new features for those who did. Neither option is viable at this time.
Trust me, we'd *like* to make money off this site and justify its existence, but that's simply not going to happen at this time.
