a serious problem re ext display

Hey everyone i seem to have come across a serious problem when disconnecting an external display.

The thing is im using a program called gmax(3D app by discreet(but problem with other programs too)). When i open up a dialogue box within the programme, ie the material editor it does not appear, this is probably due to the fact that over the holidays i was using an external monitor with my laptop screen and since ext display had a higher resolution then my laptop i was using that for programs which needed larger desktop real estate.ie gmax. Since i dont have the screen anymore, i think the program is putting dialogue boxes in some imaginery space which it thinks is the ext display.

I dont know how to get it back to normal, Ive tried everyting, even reinstalling the program which im sure would work but hasnt done the job, anyone have any ideas on how i should fix this kinda problem cos its very annoying as you coulda guessed.

Well it turns out i was able to fix the problem, i did this by reseting some ini files.

But i have another question regarding external displays, if i were to connect a desktop pc to a tv, would it work in the same way as connecting a pc to a tft monitor, ie would the windows desktop appear on the tv with the wallpaper and everything, showing all programs or is it jus certain programs that show up, ie dvd programs. Thank you for your help
