Getting Anomaly Crashes? Look here!

Ok, we've gotten numerous reports from the german players who are experiencing crashes when their survey vessel encounters an anomaly.

So here's a link to the english versions of the anomaly files and copies of the anomaly graphics.  The .anomaly files go in your data directory, and the .mdl files go in your gfx directory.  You may want to back up your german translated files first so that you can compare the files and maybe find what the error is.  If you do find that the error is in the data files, please post it here or e-mail me.

Also, if anyone wants a full set of the unmodified english data files, here is another link:

Could this also happen to the standard version of the game (US via Drengin?) See also bug report thread. Do you want to look at my saved game that causes a complete system shutdown?

When did this crash happen? At the end of a turn?

You could check your debug.err file to see if there are any script errors or missing files reported, if you're concerned that your installation has been corrupted.

Thank you a lot CariElf ,
for this sticky Thread providing access to the unmodified English Data Files.

I haven't noticed this thread earlier :(
dividing the forum in subforums "problems with downloading, installation, crashes ...", "tips & tricks about playing the game", "suggestions/discussions for new features" etc. would surely help tremendously to follow specific aspects.

For me the "crashes when a survey vessel encounters an anomaly" went away by replacing only the german text files with the english ones.
Ie. without changing monster.mdl. So probably the single reason is monster.ship.

The german version doesn't look corrupted, but rather modified.
(From memory, major difference:
Tech_Requirement_ID 999
replaced with
Tech_Requirement "unreachable tech")

And there are more of such replacements.

PS. the link to the english data files produces "BAD REQUEST"

Hmm...I can access it.  If you try now, can you? The server may have been down when you tried and got the Bad Request.

Cari, could my crash be caused by installing windvd 5? See #2 in this thread.

CariElf,
this seems wierd to me: When I got the Bad Request, the link to anomaly.zip worked, while the link to data 1.1.zip malfunc'ed (both alternating 3 times in a row). :) But now ALL IS WELL. :)

That's the content of the 'german' monster.ship:

//------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHIP SpaceShark
//------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name "Raumhai"
Model "Monster01"
Description ""

HitPoints 50
Attack 10
Defense 4
Speed 1
Cost 50
SensorRange 10
Ability "Attack"
Tech_Requirement "ImpossibleTech"
Maintenance 0
Range 4
Weapon "Photon"
ENDSHIP

Looks like someone who did conversion was trying to prevent this one from ever showing up in game.

//------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHIP SpaceShark
//------------------------------------------------------------------------
End of quote

It looks like that should work as is... Tech 999 is ImpossibleTech. That was done so you couldn't build them yourself.

Hi,
I'm playing the german version (1.10A) of GalCiv and every game sooner or later crashes. I hit the turn button and I'm returned to the Win desktop - no error message, no warning, nothing. I reinstalled the game, removed SETI from memory and tried different settings for autosave but nothing helped. Would any of the files (data, monster, etc.) help with my problem?

I'm running WinXP home, P4 2.4 Ghz, 512 Mb Ram.

Thanks for the help :)

Yes, the german version has the corrupted space shark.  Take anomaly.zip and extract those files to your galciv folder. The .mdl files go in the gfx folder and the others go in your data folder.

Oh thanks, i will try that! I had the same crash - game suddenly crashs and even the loaded save dosent work anymore.

Woud be nice if the german site (galciv.de) would mention that problem.

GC 1.12
I'm getting re-boot crashes when moving the magnifying square of the mini-map, in a search pattern.
It happens infrequenty after more then 1 hour of play. sometimes longer.

Running on w2k,

Unable to get the smart exception, will run in windowed mode to try to prevent warmboot, to get the smartexception report.

Lous-guy reid, are you getting the problem where the ships start turning invisible before the crashes?
