How many players they have is not the issue. The reason they pulled away is that Syrrus K posted 272K to a new character (Zorn des K) today. If he had posted this score to his first place character it would only be worth 70K to him and the Orca's. The 272K score all by itself is good for 13th place.

I suggest that we do the same thing. We'll pretty much have to finish off our current games started under our old characters, but it's probably more efficient to spread our games over multiple characters. Does anyone know if there's a limit on the number of active characters you can keep at one time?

Actually, that's good because it limits the extent that you can do this. There does seem to be a bit of sleeziness about this. A lot of folks keep more than one character, though mostly I don't think it's explicitly to pump up the empire's score. From the player's point of view it makes sense to keep one character and see how high you can get. From the empire's point of view it would probably be better to keep three active player's with less games each so that their scores are not as diluted by the number of games submitted.

One active player is fine by me. The first spot never really interested me that much anyhow!

This empire is not made up of people who strive only for the 'glory' of the top spot, more it comprises members who get on well together, actively chat together and have a common goal. That goal is the same one we had in the GCI days & that is you play for fun and not the competition. Winning is not everything in this game, enjoying it is

I am not opposed to starting another character but I will not due it just to increase the empire ranking. Like DG said, its for fun. Of course the competition is part of the fun too and these usurpers of the crown will soon fall upon there swords.

DM. The games were corupted somehow. I saved these directly to the laptop so they should be okay. Hopefully have time to get a few in.

Could have put it under Ming, but I am trying for a race medal. Only three more to go.  

I think the multiple character thing was intended to be used more for folks in the position of FC. I think it makes great sense in this case where you may be away from the MV for months at a time and suddenly you post 45 games in a 2 or 3 day span.

I'm sure he'd like to have the ability to spread that over several characters and maximize the results of his work. Of course if he's not able to do so while on deployment, he'll probably be rarin' to go when he gets back in port.

Personally I never liked the "have several characters and put them all in empires" idea. Nothing against having a second or even third character, but putting them in the same empire sounds like a silly competition to me. I'd prefer if you could put only one of your characters in an empire.

Two things affect this decision for me...

1. Metaverse recalcs - my first 2 characters were knocked off the number 1 spot and decimated scorewise by the recalcs.

2. There is no grouping of games in 30-day brackets as there was with GC1 - which means that the diminishing returns factor is in effect for ever.

So when (1) happens to a character with a number of submitted games, you are left with a whole bunch of low scoring games that drag down your overall score for ever.

Likewise, Syrrus K sees that he gets far less MV points for a 250K+ game than I do because of the total number of submitted games for that character. I really see no problem with starting off a new character for that reason, as it probably gives an overall better chance of competing for the number 1 spot in the long run.

I don't blame anyone for having several characters and all of them in empires at the moment - the current system encourages it which is a bad stimulus in my opinion.

Personally I don't like it that way and decided not to do it myself (just have a look at my "recalced" scores to understand the incentive...), that's all. My second character was made only to test a MV bug, I deleted the scores later.

Going to try going up again i think as i did not find Tough that much different. Might try a few more games though. Still having trouble getting my economy going though. Max i got to was 650 per turn Have to work on that side of it i think
