Screwed up sound at planet build screens

Not sure if I posted this before or not. But I still get wierd beeps and pops when at the planet build screens. This is on two systems with Sound Blaster cards. One is an audigy and one is a live. My notebook, with integrated sound, works fine though.

Nobody else has this problem? Or am I missing some sound manager?

Is it possible that some sound systems can't take the mix of two sources? On my system, where the music works well, I hear the main screen music at a lower volume (perhaps one quarter as loud) with the planet sounds (birds chirping for planet class 16 and up, and thunder for planet classes below 16).

I had been wondering if it was some library or something I was missing since it has been this way since the start of the beta. I have been here lurking for a long time, just started posting a lot since I have had time to play a bunch. A more configurable forum or tie-in with the newsgroups would be handy for looking up older stuff.

There have been a lot of posts on the Creative newsgroups about similar problems so this might be related to the drivers you are using and not a bug within Galciv. I think this happens only when two sounds sources are mixed so does not show up when just playing mp3's. On Windows 2000 with the latest creative drivers and a SB Live card I do not have any problems, (there are other things that do not work but nothing major). Might be worth checking the creative newgroups and maybe try the latest drivers (big caution here check out the newsgroup for some of the problems people are having before doing this)

I have WIN 98 and the latest driver I can get on the European Creativ Page for my SB Live Value is very old (26.05.2000) :(.

For any of you who do not have DirectX 8.1b, the latest version available, I would recommend getting them.

The last time that I talked to Ian about it, he said that the mp3 problem could be caused by certain directshow filters that mp3 player apps could have downloaded/installed.

Sorry Jurgen I think that you are going to see that Win98 is going to get less and less suport because of the different driver model it uses. Some Vendors are good at updating drivers others only update the drivers for the latest operating system such as Win Xp/Win 2000/Windows ME

Snief ... I Installed Direct X 8.1b over my Direct X 8.1 but I have still the corupt sound.

The change to a newer Operating System is no option as it is to expensive (If I would change the only option is Windows XP).
