In 16x16px, the borders of my icons disappear !

Hello,

I've got a little problem. I've downloaded a set of icons I wanted to complete using PhotoImpact 10 (because I can save in *.ico format). This is how I made it :
- I've taken an icon and erase the grey background (selection and del)
- I've taken an other icon and I've pasted a new picture (the blue part)
- I've saved my document

I've tried the same thing with Photoshop CS and the result is the same.

When I use the icon, in 16x16 (Win Explorer format in "details" or "list" mode), the borders don't appear (1). Although they do on original icons, without modifications (2).

What's going on ? What should I do to have nice icons ?

Thanks

If that border is 1px in size, luck would have it that it would disappear .

When an image gets resized, it gets slightly blurred. So I think the problem would be that because the outline is only 1px, it just gets rid of it, or makes it a VERY light grey tone >_>.

If you want perfect 16x16px icons, then create each one at 16x16 with a boarder.

Now I could be wrong on this, so I'd wait for more replies from more experienced users .

Well done ! Not sure for the 1px border but when I work on the 16x16 icon, I can put the border back. It's just a bit laborious because for 1 icon, I have to work on 10 different formats to fix problems of that kind. I have no choice if I want something clean, but I like, so...

Thanks Sir

Glad I could be of some help . It is a bit time consuming to work on each icon individually, but it's worth it in the end, I say. The icons look good btw, nice choice .
