    How do you get icons to display information??

e.g. How many files are in the Recycle Bin, or how much space is used up on your hard drive??

That's strange. Do you mean it's not what you are looking for, or that you were unable to find it. If the latter, the link below will take you to the download page. I don't believe that AveDesk allows you to view the amount of disk space on icons, however, it fulfills everything else you require.

The forums ate my post. o_O

Avedesk can do it all, displaying all the information you want. It can also have thing like weather desklets, display system information, and other goodies. I was bored one day and made a beginner's guide: Using Avedesk.

I know it's strange, but when I open it, it says that it has encountered a problem and had to close (and its sorry for the inconvinience ).

I had that error too (about it having to close) when I had winamp 5.23 (I believe) installed. That version just created a bunch of problems. Other than that I get no errors with Avedesk.
