First Philippine Idol

Visayas Auditions

The Visayas audition for the first Philippine Idol aired last Sunday, August 6. The audition was held at the Bigfoot Entertainment.

I must say, it was a bit disappointing due to the fact that no one really wowed me. I don't think the first PI will come from Visayas. I took down notes while watching the show but after that, I don't remember anything. I forgot how they sounded like. Anyway, here's my list of those who got the "Gold Pass."

1. Jefferson Gayo. The bald guy. His performance was more theatrical and his fashion sense, I don't know.
2. Lenebelle Padillo. She bungee jumped in Macau. She was more of a dancer than a singer. Her performance was over the top.
3. Brian Sombrero. The boxer from BF Homes, Paranaque. He sang careless Whisper. He was pitchy in spots but I think he deserved to be in the next round.
4. Zandra Tan. Ballroom dancer. She sang No Ordinary Love. Her audition? Hmmm, I don't know.
5. Ricardo Sabanal III. English - Japanese Language Teacher. Man! I don't know what went through the judges" mind. I thought he wasn't gonna get the gold pass because he screamed throughout his whole audition. Divine Providence?
6. Giancarlo Magdangal. Another one from Manila. He played the Piano. This one I remember. I think he has a shot at being one of the finalists, just yet. Could he be related to Jolina Magdangal?
7. James Yebes. He wore a cowboy hat. He was muscular. Mamita even said, borrowing the words of Francis M, "Hindi pa siya kumakanta, pasado na s'akin."
8. Edwin Lotivio, Jr. Seaman.
9. Randolph Libres. (I think that's his last name). Physician. He had some pitch problems but good enough to go through to the next round.
10. Fred Abaquita, Jr. Hairstylist. I forgot if he got the gold pass but I have his name written on my list. I didn't put a check mark or an x mark so I have no other way of knowing.
11. Stephanie Lazaro. Gold Coast, Australia. She was good. By the way, she tried auditioning in Australia for the Australian Idol. She made to the top 50.
12. Kenneth Paul Alonzo. I also remember this one because of his sexuality and his audition. He was the transvestite. The mystery girl. Her audition was great. She didn't go there as just another transvestite flashing her flambuoyant personality with no talent whatsoever. She was good. It was heartfelt, simple, not trying hard.

Some of those who auditioned were not so lucky because of their wacky, crazy, outrageous dance choreography. It just destroyed their audition.

Engel, out! :D"

I also felt that Kenneth Paul Alonzo sang his/her audition piece from the heart. I have heard him sing a lot of times and he moves me in his songs. I'm his friend and i support him all the way. i hope my friend makes it to the 24. lets help him make it to the top 24. Take care. God bless.

hi. Im Ricardo Sabanal III. i regret singing the same song in manila. actually i sang it so that i would stand out and get the gold pass... but during the eliminations in manila, it didnt work. i was planning to sing "please don't ask me" by martin nievera, of course my own version, but changed my mind in the last minute and sang gethsemane instead...it was a big mistake...i think philippine idol is looking for a very distinctive voice. simplicity is really a plus. anyway, i still got 2 years to try again....hehehe
